No report on the Saturday or Sunday run?

Didnt have time to write yesterday as I went river floating for 8 hours afterward.

Saturday Run:

8 miles - 1 hour 6 minutes. 8:15/mile. Times are getting better with each long run. This week was a cutback week, so I was happy getting 20 miles in.

Took today off as I always do.

Thanks Boxer for the inquiry.

Update:

Unfortunately I haven't been able to run the past 4 days, which really sucks.

I have a bone bruise on my left foot, so I wanted to stay off it until it healed. I have been doing other cardio to maintain, and should be back in action either this weekend or Monday.

Not a huge deal as I scheduled an extra week into my training for something like this to happen.

It was an official full week off from running because of my foot. Starting again Monday with the training. Not real pleased, but the foot is finally better.

Weeknds are TOUGH in the summer. I was at a basketball camp all weekend--but not only did I do my games--9 of them--I still fit in a 6 mile run Sat and a 12 mile run Sunday. I am WHOOPED!!!

Back today for the first time since last Saturday. 4 miles in 30:30. Foot still not 100%, but it was good to be able to go today.

Thanks for asking. Hoping to do 6-7 tomorrow.

I have followed Hal's plan religiously up to this point. However, I am going to have to throw some speed work in as I am at about an 8 mile pace for all runs

I was actually a week ahead of schedule (having been through this before, I figured something would happen), so I am officially on schedule as well. Speed work and hills really add wonders to the training.

Sounds like your running has been going really well. Keep it up WW.

On any run over 3 miles I take the HILLY course. This really helps for those bridges in NYC. I have stcuk to the plan--but times need to improve. Today I ran 23:13 for 3 miles. Want to get some of my mileage in the 7:30 range.

Furmanski, I just noticed your thread. I have run a number of Marine Marathons - it is a great generally flat well supported marathon and I would recommend it to all. I ran very fast times but swore at each finish I would never run another. As for your training in early August, forget all speed/tempo work. Concentrate on distance work with a balance of keeping your feet, Achilles, and knees healthy. Training in August shore-side humidity is a disadvantage ( humidity tends to suffocate and blanket progress). While you build distance (use these three weeks for serious hard long distance work before gradually shifting to shorter work which will be no picnic either) work your upper body with lifting and stomach/back work because you want to build 'stride-strength' which means getting strong enough to get more lift and drive on your stride which will be honed in September faster tempo work. You are now running some good workouts. Definitely try to hook with other runners and clubs because the support and experience (the give and take in workouts with others simulates natural hills and obstacles and builds mental toughness, and expands on the whole experience) especially because you are training in mind-deadening humid conditions. Above all, do your best to protect the investment you are making by staying healthy and avoiding injury and making it to the start line.

Ahhh...finally fully back on the horse again. Ran 6 this evening and felt normal again. Gonna have to push it up a little over the next couple of weeks to get some mileage in, but at least I am back to 100%.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but interesting article in the latest Men's Health about the damage marathons can do to the body.
