If anyone is interested in a great book on running form and running in general, I highly recommend ChiRunning.

It is basically about developing form and has helped me not only run faster, but also enjoy running more.

Last year I ran in 15 road races. The longest race was a half marathon. I placed second in a 10k. I stopped right after the half marathon which was in September and didn't start up again until May. Im trying to get back into it now, but I just dont feel the same. I definitely put on some pounds and it has fucked with my time. If you ever want to watch an awesome movie watch the Spirit of the Marathon. Here is a clip from it I definitely recommend it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8XSit8XyeM

That was a great intro. I signed up for the notification as to when it comes out on DVD. I would love to see the whole thing.

No running today as I am running 10 miles tomorrow. I hope that the rain holds off as we have a 50% chance in the morning. Regardless, it is gonna be a rough one. 75 degrees and 93% humidity. Just gotta get through it.

It was only in movie theaters for one night. I was notified when it was playing in one near me and I went that night. It ended up selling out. I cant even begin to tell you how great that movie is. Knowing that you are a dedicated runner I know that you will love it.

Saturday long run:

10 miles in 1:24:47. Basically 8:30/mile. Real happy with the time considering it was drizzling and humid as hell.

Whale, how much do you weigh right now and how tall?

Running to me is just torture - today I went 3 miles and I needed ACDC to fire me up so I could finish

Check out the book ChiRunning, you can get it at Barnes & Noble or any other big book store. It will really help understand the form of running and get you through any run that you are doing whether it be 3 miles or 30 miles.

Best of luck to you Seymour, I hope that you can enjoy your runs more.

Wow, 290 to 180 - that's more than getting in shape - that's changing your life.

Best part is that it has been 3 years now that I have kept it off. Size 50 to 34 BUT..I still am not comfortable. I believe that somewhere I developed a mental problem. I cant enjoy ANYTHING fattening now. I will be eating a piece of birthday cake and thinking I am a bad person. Also--to really complete this process I need to have skin removed as i still Feel Fat. Def feel better--but it is hard to enjoy food.

..for my money.. 7:17 per mile is haulin ass.....'keep the continue'.

Getting there hognuts...gotta get it faster though.

Wednesday run:

3 miles in 24:30. Decided to run hills today, so the time was a lot slower than yesterday which is expected. Ran 1/4 mile uphill at an average of a 6% grade, then a jog down repeated 6 times. This is a ball buster.

Tomorrow will be a longer run.

Cheers. :toast:

i ran my 2nd fastest time when it poured the whole race. it was toronto 1994. the rain cools you off as long as you don't get blisters.
my running has died lately. last thing i did was the sri chinmoy 24 hour ultra marathon in ottawa/hull at the terry fox stadium a few years back. it peaked at almost 40 degrees with the humidex. i did 80 miles. right now it seems like work whenever i try and go again. hopefully i can get it back soon.

WW,

Sorry I never saw that you were asking a question. As far as speed work, I try and do a tempo run once a week. Basically warm up for about a mile or so, then crank out about 30 minutes at about 10-15 seconds off your 10-k time. Then cool down for a mile or so.

Also, I am adding a run each week that varies between hills and interval training. For the hills, I started this week and the workout is just above this post. I am going to try and increase the miles by 1 a week or two weeks. Max. out at 7 miles for the hills.

For the intervals, you want to do between 800m and 1600m. Try and do these at a 5k pace. Walk for 400m, then repeat 3 to 4 times. Increase it each week up to 6-7 times.

Hope this helps out some.
