League leaders Man City welcome Chelsea to the Etihad in what is the most important match of the season so far. 3 points separate the two teams that are most likely to finish in the top two places in the league this season and if City can continue their incredible home performances against Chelsea they are in a great position to go on and win the league this season especially as Chelsea have not won at the Etihad since 2008.

Chelsea who average 1.6 points per away game, have a very tough task to stop a Man City team that has won all of their home league matches, while scoring a massive average of 3.8 goals per game. Chelsea are likely to go with Eto’s up front as Torres is injured. Man City’s Aguero is unavailable with a hamstring injury. It will be interesting to see if City go with one or both of Dzeko and Negredo up front which they should do at home despite going with a 4-5-1 when they played Chelsea in the reverse fixture which Chelsea won 2-1 with a last minute Torres goal.

Man City are in the form of their lives right now, having won 14 of their last 15 games in all competitions but they will encounter the league’s best defence in Chelsea.

Tactically Mourinho will set Chelsea up ultra defensively with the aim to nick a 1-0 win however with both teams having players who can score from all over the pitch it is likely to be a very cautious game in the first half. This is one of those matches where it is more important not to lose than it is to win. Chelsea have travelled to Arsenal and Man Utd this season and Mourinho’s tactics resulted in two goalless draws however these two teams have a history of high scoring encounters and if City score first then Chelsea will have to open up to a more attacking formation which could result in a high scoring game. If Chelsea score first they will put 9 or 10 men behind the ball with Mourinho making defensive substitutions around the 70th minute if he has something to protect.

74% of the goals scored in City’s league matches come in the second half with Chelsea’s matches having 55% of their goals scored in the final half.

Recommended Bet: HALF WITH MOST GOALS 2ND HALF @ 2.15 (William Hill)
Recommended Stake: 2 Points
Predicted Strike Rate: 62%

Out: Agüero (hamstring), Milner (groin), Nasri (knee), Javi Garcia (unspecified)

Chelsea (Possible, 4-2-3-1): Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Ramires, Lampard; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Eto'o.
Out: Torres, Van Ginkel (knee).

I'm starting to feel like I am talking to myself. Anybody with another insight into this game?

not sure Super Bowl Sunday is the best time to expect a group discussion about the city match on Monday

I'm hoping for an attractive, open match but given the Special One's defensive tactics this year it'll probably fall well short of that. City win is expected

I'm playing Chelsea +.5, thinking it will be a tight match and possibly a draw. I wouldn't be surprised by a Man City win, but the better bet is Chelsea.

Anything short of City victory today is demoralizing...they played first match of year at The Bridge as if 'the wop' was still in charge...and still pissed a point away at the death...have a hard time believing Jovetic starting over Dzeko...I despise Chelsea the same way I feel about the French prick at the helm in the northern part of London....City defense will always be shite to me, but when you score at the clip we do, I guess the back line can have its leaks....looking for City to impose their will at The Etihad today, 3-1 City@14-1 sounds nice

would like to see a 4-5 goal game but the way chelsea are playing away from home i don't see it happening. 4 straight road clean sheets and the 5th game back they didn't allow a goal until the 88th.

hard to skip an over 2.5 with city involved....still has to be my lean

Thanks for the info guys. I'm thinking of playing the Draw 1H and City Full Time. PA, you mentioned it could be a close tight low scoring affair in the 1H and maybe City gets a late goal? Worth a shot at the current odds? +400

That's weird....so I guess either Demichelis or Nastasic goes into the midfield? Or Kompany? Kolarov has to play right back. Maybe 4-1-3-2 if they allow YaYa more freedom to go forward.

Obviously Negrado has been wonderful, but for me Fernandino has been the best addition to this year's City team. He is the perfect compliment to YaYa in the 4-4-2. No play for me today...just going to watch and maybe make a play at halftime. I expect it to be very cagey at the outset.

Dimichelis has had waaaaay too much of a say in this match providing Grand Canyon like holes in the midfield and back and are likely to be downfall today w/an already anemic bench,,,, it's not looking like a happy Monday,,,,would love to see lopes get some run alongside yaya....

Brutal....out everythinged, coached/played/hustled...could have been 4-0 Chelsea....almost as if we were saving something for FA cup tie in 10 days..but I could not even buy that line....just brutal, this one is tough to swallow....

no doubt ct....don't think anyone saw that performance coming. i think the special one just completely fn outcoached pelly who assumed it would be another park-the-bus program. guess that's why mourinho is one of the great coaches on this planet and pelly is a never-will-be
