It's a photo that immediately incensed animal lovers-a German Shepherd chasing longingly after a white car, minutes after his owner tried to dump him at an animal shelter.
But what is even more upsetting is an interview that the man gave to 7 News Denver, where he tries to justify his actions saying, "I gave my dog a choice."
Earlier this week, Daniel Sohn attempted to surrender his German Shepherd named Bronson to the Denver Animal Shelter twice in one day. But when he was asked to fill out paperwork, the man allegedly bolted from the facility, leaving his dog behind. Sohn jumped into his car and drove away with his dog trailing after the vehicle.
"Well I didn't ditch him. I actually dropped my dog off at the shelter where I did pick him up at," Sohn told 7 News in the exclusive video interview. "I actually gave my dog a choice if he wanted to be with me or possibly find an owner he might feel better with."
Sohn told reporters that following the event, he drove to Los Angeles and Bronson jumped out of the car window at a gas station. It is unclear whether or not the dog has been recovered.
The lack of remorse that Sohn feels for his dog is apparent in the video, despite telling reporters that he and his dog had "a bit of a bond." Sohn seemed to believe that since the dog was originally a stray, it wouldn't mind being a stray again. And that is heartbreaking.
There is a silver lining to this extremely sad story-Sohn has been cited for animal cruelty and neglect, according to Denver Animal Control.
Anyone with information about Bronson's whereabouts should contact the Denver Animal Shelter.

This guy is a dick head. At least he brought the dog to a shelter. Hopefully, he will be adopted by better owners.

This is actually one of the worst things you can do, unless it is a NO KILL facility. I cannot preach this enough. It is that bad.

Owner surrenders are sometimes killed instantly at kill shelters. They aren't even given a chance to be known to the public. A dog is better off showing up at a shelter called in by Animal Control as a stray than it is turned in at the counter. There's a 5 day hold only, but most strays are given a month or so to be adopted, fostered, or rescued. But, during puppy season (now), and the shelter running rampant with URI or kennel cough almost always, the sick hold and such can fill up quickly, given owner surrenders even less of a chance. Some get depressed instantly too from going from a home to the shelter (look at Bronson run after the car). This is not good to see when it's time for decisions to be made.

Dog whose muzzle was taped shut is expected to recover after surgery

Caitlyn, the dog whose muzzle was cruelly taped shut for days, is out of reconstructive surgery and is doing well, doctors say.
“Her tongue was in way better condition that we anticipated. It was initially assessed that we would lose about a third of her tongue, and we sort of revised that estimate to a fourth, but I don’t think she lost an eighth of it,” Henri Bianucci, a doctor with Veterinary Specialty Care in South Carolina, told WCIV shortly after the surgery.
The reconstructive procedure took longer than expected, but it was a success.
While her recovery from the surgery might take weeks, Caitlyn is expected to be able to eat and drink food normally.
The 15-month-old chocolate Staffordshire bull terrier mix was found in Charleston County, S.C., last week with a thin strip of electrical tape wrapped tightly around her muzzle. The vise was so tight for so long — up to 48 hours — that it trapped her tongue between her teeth, cutting off the blood flow.
“I have a dog that’s here at my house that I found and the dog’s mouth is taped shut with electrical tape, tongue hanging out its mouth, bleeding, and his tongue is completely black,” a 911 caller said, according to ABC affiliate WCIV. “I just don’t know what to do.”
