A man who trekked through the South American jungle found an inch-long bug crawling out of his back three months later.

Kevin Gilvary was changing the dressing on what he thought was a mosquito bite near his shoulder blade when the bug appeared.

Kevin, from Titchfield in Hampshire, remembers being stung while in jungle near the Amazon river in Peru.

He says he was looking at the bite mark in a mirror when he saw a "yellowish head sticking out and wiggling."

"I called my partner Christine and with one squeeze, the larva popped out on to a tissue. I put it inside a sealed jar and spent the next half an hour watching it wriggle around."

Tropical disease expert Dr Matthew Dryden, based at Winchester's Royal Hampshire County Hospital, believes the creature was most likely a South African botfly: "This one does seem to have been in the skin a long time but I have seen plenty of cases like it because it is common to be bitten in tropical destinations."

Kevin refuses to be put off travelling and he and Christine have already booked a Christmas trip to Cuba.

Meanwhile he hasn't decided what to do with the botfly.

THAT IS THE NAME OF THE FLY (NOT BUG OR MOSQUITO) THAT CAUSES THAT "GUSANO" OR "TORSELO". IT IS A HUGE GREEN FLY THAT USUALLY LIVES IN DIRTY, STINKY PLACES !!!!! EEEEEEEAAAK!!
COWS ALWAYS HAVE THEM, AS WELL AS SOME HORSES !!
YOU CAN GO OUT CAMPING, JUST BE CAREFULLLLLLLLLL!!

I'm wondering why he waited until it popped out. Did he think that huge bulge on his back was normal?
