Ole Les has taken some heat the last couple of seasons even though he's won 20 games Miles is 62-17 in six seasons with two SEC West titles, an SEC championship and that national title in 2007. Listed below is the head coaching career for crazy Les.

2001.....Oklahoma State.....4-7
2002.....Oklahoma State.....8-5
2003.....Oklahoma State.....9-4
2004.....Oklahoma State.....7-5
Total at Oklahoma State.....28-21

2005.....LSU.....11-2
2006.....LSU.....11-2
2007.....LSU.....12-2
2008.....LSU.....8-5
2009.....LSU.....9-4
2010.....LSU.....11-2
Total at LSU.....62-17

Overall.....90-38, 10 years.

Most think 2011 will be another good season for Miles. If he can get some good quarterback play, they might just be right. :103631605

I think he has the best DC in the business and Kragthorpe may help with some innovative play calling. I am not sure Kragthorpe has been around this much talent before.

You certainly cannot claim the LSU ducks the tough teams. Opening with Oregon at Jerryworld is as tough as it gets. They also go to West Virginia. They also go to Miss. State and Alabama. Which ever bowl LSU ends up in, they will certainly have earned it.

BD, you are right....three of the first four games will be a test.

Sept. 3, vs Oregon (12-1 in 2010)
Sept. 10 Northwestern St. (5-6)
Sept. 15 at Miss State (9-4)
Sept. 24 at W. Virginia (9-4)
Oct. 1 Kentucky (6-7)
Oct. 8 Florida (8-5)
Oct. 15 at Tennessee (6-7)
Oct. 22 Auburn (14-0)
Nov. 5 at Alabama (10-3)
Nov. 12 Western Ky (2-10)
Nov. 19 at Ole Miss (4-8)
Nov. 25 Arkansas (10-3)

That November 5th game should be a dandy. May be for the SEC West.

I agree. Les has done an outstanding job at LSU...had a rough season in '08, but had made a strong comeback.

I'm just not sure how he got the job in the first place w/ his record at OK State....

I heard they stuck a for sale sign on his front lawn after his first loss at LSU. Brutal.

Chavis, no way. He's good, not the best. You could coach that defense with the talent they have there

Jerry jones and Jason Garrett (from the Cowboys) both went to bat for him to get that job. He coached on the staff here in Dallas for a while. He was really well liked by the front office. He even spent some time with them before the Cotton Bowl.

He's a great coach when he's a road dog

What folks don't realize is he's an excellent recruiter. The guy can sell ice to eskimos. He's smooth.

Miles is a great recruiter. That's the best thing going for him. I still think that on his own he's an idiot. Luckily he's been able to surround himself with some decent coaches over the years. He reminds me a little of Mack Brown.A very average coach who can accumulate a 11-2 record every year just based on the having the best talent in the country at his hands. Maybe the bigger surprise is that he's never lost less than 2 games in any season with all of that NFL type talent. Even in winning the NC in 2008 he still lost 2 games that year. So Miles can also claim being one of the luckiest son of a bitches in college football.

GS - Take your Crimson and Cream sunglasses off!!! LOL!! He was a pretty good OC during his time at Colorado under McCartney. Buffs always had a good offense

Chavis is good cus he knows SEC football. Miles learned what it was about his very 1st game. thats what the for sale signs were about.

They were playing Tennessee and were up like 24-0 at the half. T had nothing that year, so in the 2nd half Miles starts putting in 3rd teamers and playing a prevent defense. Tennesee fired off about 21 points and they were having to hold LSU fans back in the stands.....they were ready to choke the guy right there on the field!!! If its 1 thing Nick Saban taught here its you NEVER let up, not 1 frickin play. EVER.
Les learned that lesson that night and has never repeated it again.. I still say hes a damn good coach, as good as LSU could ever hope to do.

It's easy to question his methods since he's unorthodox as Pablo Loco posted earlier. But you can't question his results. 62-17, 2 SEC West titles, SEC title and a National title. He's in an elite class among current head coaches with those results. I'm not saying I think he's a great coach but when you look at the results they jump off the page at you.

He runs a "damn strong" football program :)

Les is still a little underated and underappreciated IMO (part of that is his off-center style and the Lucky Les persona the media enhanced). Why? He followed the great Nick Saban which is always tough to do. You want to be the guy that replaces the guy that replaced the guy (Saban). Right there that puts him in a position with tremendous expectations and pressure since he followed Nick Saban directly. Furthermore, he turned around Okie State and put a foundation there for Gundy and company. He also pulled off massive upsets against Oklahoma where he was getting double-digits (one game I think he was even getting 20+ points) It should be noted the Sooners have won 8 straight since against Okie State (most of those wins with Miles gone). Okie State has had more talent recently with Gundy than before, but Les beat the Sooners with less talent in BB Years. He also has a National Championshp which puts him in elite company. Sure, he had two losses that year, but I remember Les making his case for the title by saying (paraphrasing)
"We're undefeated in regulation" which is a classic quote IMO since LSU had lost 2 games in overtime that year. LSU then went on to win the title that year against Ohio State.

I guess it's just more personal with me when it comes to Miles from the days he was at OSU. I still can't forget the snide remarks he used to make about Stoops and the OU program in what seemed like every press conference. I'm sure Stoops got tired of hearing his "they aren't as good as they think they are" statements. At least Stoops took the higher ground and didn't try to get in a pissing contest with this asshole. I do credit Miles for his ability to pull out upsets and his two wins over OU. But let's not forget that Mike Gundy was one of the best offensive coordinators in the country when he coached under Miles. Which was the biggest reason he got promoted to head coach.
I still stand by my statement that Miles isn't smart enough to win on his own. He needs an ace coaching staff to do it. Much like with Mack Brown. I don't think he is in the class or as smart as a Nick Saban, Kelly or Urban Meyer. 10 years from now I'll judge Miles the way I have Mack Brown. With all of the 5 star talent that he has on hand and winning 10 or 11 games every season, how many SEC Championships will he win? So far it's one. And before we put too much emphasis on his national championship, just keep in mind that if he doesn't have the right people working for him, he could also go the way of some of those other one and done national championship head coaches like Phil Fulmer and Lloyd Carr. To give him credit, he does have a pretty good OC this year with Kragthorpe. Which was a good get.. So we'll see if he can win the western division for the first time in 3 years. As for me, you'll never see me cheer for LSU. I still remember the 2003 national title game with OU in New Orleans when a friend of mine and some other fans got pummeled with bottles and everything else the LSU fans could find to throw at OU fans after the game. They couldn't even go enjoy the streets and the nightlife of New Orleans after that game...Pitiful. I would have hated to see how they would have acted if they lost..So as far as I'm concerned the LSU fans and Miles deserve each other. By the way, this is the only team I feel this way about. I have a lot of respect for all fans of college football and their teams. But I make an exception with LSU....But I'm sure they could care less.

I agree with GS on this LSU topic. Their fans were totally classless after that game in NO. I know some personal things about Miles that I cannot discuss on a forum but which show his "other"side. No he is not gay but I judge people more by what they do off the field than on it and in his case I have no respect for him based on what I know about him. On the field he is uncoventional to say the least but I will say this, he is a players coach and that is all that really matters.

Tough schedule IMO on paper for LSU this year so it won't be easy for them. I'm sure if LSU cashes a ticket for you this year ATS then that will help erode your feelings some LOL, although I know you do more Big 12 games
Best of luck GoSooners and good to hear from you again.
