a couple questions......please be objective....

1)what is the status of saban?.......in your opinion,is he history?......

2)although i love ferentz as a coach, iowa has no running game......and i sense that there is a huge "athlete gap" present in this game.....the arkansas game was impressive as hell to me.......i see no way that teams like illinois and penn st stay close to lsu regardless of the venue....

no advantage for iowa playing in florida....

the only real advantage that i sense for iowa is the passing game and ferentz.......and lsu defends the pass pretty well....

what`s your take here?.....

if saban stays; they stone iowa

The short answer.......

Saban is solid.

The long answer.......

Rumors of Saban leaving will continue.....

......as long as he has an agent. Sexton was hired by Saban to represent him. To keep his job, Sexton must do two things:
1. Get Saban the best opportunity possible
2. Make a living

I sincerely doubt that Sexton cares where Saban coaches. He just wants to have a great place available for him to coach.

Sexton gets paid when Saban gets a contract, and the bigger the contract (at least for most agent arrangements) the bigger the payment. So Sexton has a great incentive to get Saban the biggest contract possible.

Sexton will keep putting Saban's name out whenever possible. This way, Saban always has options, should he ever desire a change.

Please note that I will be very surprised if Coach Saban is not coach at LSU four years from now. However, since Sexton appears to be a good agent, he will continue to have Saban's name in the spotlight. If Stoops really did get a big contract at OK, then it is up to Sexton to try to get Coach Saban a big contract, whether at LSU or somewhere else.

It also should be no surprise that Coach Saban's name is linked to many openings. That is Sexton's job, and obviously (from his client list) he does his job very well. So when you see the next rumor on CFN, ESPN, or anywhere, just understand that Sexton is doing his job. It really means nothing. I believe if Terry (coach Saban's wife) wants to stay in BR, that is where Coach Saban will be. And fortunately for Tiger fans, she really likes it there.

He probably will go pro eventually and I can't blame him for trying at some point. However, he's got kids in school, loves BR and is growing his dynasty. Most of the people "in the know" have stated that he isn't seriously considering the NFL until kids are out of school. My point is that unless something crazy happens, we'll have Coach Saban for 3-4 more years and at this point, I'd be real happy with that. Unfortunately, we all know that by that time, LSU fans will be worse than Florida fans when it comes to losing a game and he'll get blasted (like Spurrier was) any time he loses.

My reply to your second question............

I believe that MOST gamblers consider (as attested on this site) the SEC as an average conference this year. That being the case, I anticipate mass wagering on Iowa +7. My opinion is that Iowa has misleading rush defense statistics, and will be exposed in this game. LSU will run the ball down Iowa's throat, and as a result, will pass on them all day long. The ONLY thing that concerns me as a gambler is the comfort level of Iowa's pass offense. A team like that, who is used to passing the ball is dangerous as a 7 point dog and is a potnetial back-door spoiler.

I am going to sit tight and wait for the line to drop to -5.....then I'm betting LSU for my entire profit this season.

well, all i can say is that your time is appreciated.....as i said,i seemed to get a sense that lsu was really jelling vs arkansas....they were beginning to resmble last year`s juggernaut.....as far as the sec being down...you can hardly say that the big 10 was strong this year...it wasn`t..

ferentz is my main concern..along with saban`s coaching status always seeming to be in a state of flux......i`ll sit tight and watch the lines...

again,appreciate the comprehensive response....

Well, it looks like I was wrong about Saban. Word around the Miami campfire is that he will be announced as their new coach on Friday (December 17). He'll receive over 5 million and control over player personell.......damn it.

Thanks to Nick Saban we won a National Title and two SEC titles in three years. I appreciate him for that reason. However, I don't like the constant "skirt lifting" and "winking" that Saban and his agent apparently engage in every time a suitor walks by. This is totally destabilizing for a program while recruiting. The ambivalence is killing LSU fans, and the only thing we can do is admit it and hope the future does not bring back the same.

For anyone to say that LSU can "cherry pick" any coach b/c NS set the table, is totally perposterous. Just you watch and wait. IMO...the coaching search will be handled like "recent" searches. It will be a return to "bargain basement." I don't care what anyone here says. I dread the "promote from within". I think it is "path of least resistance philosophy" and that's for LOSERS.

I hope Nick Saban stays......I really do. He is just a great asset. However, I cannot take the intrigue. It is unfair to the fans and REALLY unfair to the coaching staff. UH HUH!!

LSUpete,

This would be a huge loss not only for LSU but for the SEC. I really hope Saban stays but if not, who would you like to see hired? How about Norm Chow?

The A.D. already has someone lined up with the pen in his hand. IF Saban does leave (80% sure he will) you will see Butch Davis as the next Head Coach at LSU.

A uncomfortable sidenote is that Saban's agent Jimmy Sexton has another client that he may promote for the job....Tommy Tubberville. If that happens, you will see me hang myself from the new West side stadium expansion.

Glad to hear it. When I wrote that, I had already indulged in a few adult beverages.

Sidenote to this thread:

Dan, I'll be at my house in Hot Springs for a few days after Christmas.....want to get together and watch a few bowl games?

I live in the Baton Rouge area and I have very close ties and sources within the LSU community. I'm being told that the deal with Miami and Saban is all but done and the process of minority interviews will take place for Miami, but within the next 7-10 days the deal will be finalized and official after sometime around Jan.5th. I really hate to see Saban go, but can't blame him for taking this opportunity as the deal is worth 5.3 million a year for 7 years and organizational control which was a big stipulation with Saban. Now get this, LSU has been informed in writing by Saban and he has told AD Bertman that it is a strong possibility and LSU has begun a contigency plan for replacing him. There are only 3 coaches on a very short list with Tedford of Cal being the third choice and Butch Davis being a strong possibiliy if the first choice falls through. The first choice and by my sources, a most definite hire is Tommy Tubberville of Auburn. Now LSU fans will not be happy about this as I am not exactly sold on it but he is an excellent coach and wants out of Auburn after last year and LSU officials and TAF are going after him seriously. We will see how it pans out. Dooley and Muschamp will follow Saban to Miami but J.Fisher will not be retained on Sabans Dolphin staff or Tubbervilles.

OH GOOD GRIEF.......talk about high comedy!

SIR, I see nothing in your post that hasn't been posted already....except that you actually used the phrase "inside source" on an internet message board. NOBODY knows what Saban's going to do yet.

Minority hiring review process? You have to be kidding me. What would be more insulting to a minority than being paraded through an interview process for a job that is already gone? It's even insulting to Saban. What a stupid rule.

If this is LSU's short list, I hope they have a contingency plan, unless they could wrangle Tedford out of Cal, which would be a coup. Tubberville....are you kidding me????? Talk about being at the right place at the right time. Butch Davis is a phenomenal recruiter but it takes more than recruiting to win in the SEC...he won't have to coach in two big games a year like he did at miami, he'll have to coach in eight.

This seems to be pretty bad timing for LSU, but Saban does this every year so you never know who's going to be available as a replacement...if he even leaves.

Sorry LSUPete you think it's comical. I am only giving out what I have been told and it is from a very reliable Baton Rouge sports radio personality directly. Of coarse nothing is ever certain but what I'm stating is straight from the Dolphins organization and the powers to be with TAF. Decide for yourself what you want to read into it. I am a lifelong LSU fan and don't want to see either Saban go or T.T. hired but we will soon find out one way or another. Geaux Tigers.

Hey LSU,

Does the lingering question of Sabans future at LSU take away the confidence of you wager -7 or waiting until -5.??????
