BATON ROUGE -- Running back Shyrone Carey and deep snapper Steve Damen of LSU have been ruled ineligible to participate in the Nokia Sugar Bowl, Coach Nick Saban said Monday.

Saban did not elaborate on the nature of the violations, but indicated it had something to do with NCAA rules pertaining to bowl games.

Shrone Carey has basically been 4th string back as of late with the emergence of Alley Broussard, and Justin Vincent, and Joseph Addai is still ahead of him on the depth chart..

Never like to see a long snapper out though. But the Carey loss, is a NO story !!

It's kinda like having a Lexus in your driveway, and telling everyone about the flat on your bicycle. You weren't going to use it anyway...

Doesn't sound like that much of a loss, unless they don't have another reliable deep snapper. Vincent is their starting running back...the one that broke the SEC record for rushing in the championship game.
They'll still drill Oklahoma.

the 2 scapegoats just to get the NCAA off their back for all the rest of their violations....still amazed how Shaq got into school there (I mean we all know he wasn't smart according to the movie Blue Chips

Can't say that losing a deep snapper means nothing. One bad snap and that could cost LSU some points, two bad snaps game over. Of course, if they have someone else that's a different story. But teams usually have a specialist that long snaps and not many have quality understudies.

Hey Chad,

What is your beef with LSU? Is it becasue they cost you money this season? It seems like ALL of your comments are negative about this team, and it makes you sound like you don't know shit. I have followed your picks this season, so I know that isn't true because you've done well. However, you have repeatedly posted ingnorant, negative one-liners about the Tigers....so what's your problem?

Case in point:
Since you stated that inelligible players aren't suprising at LSU, name another player that has been ruled inelligible last five years.

I really do think the longsnapper problem needs a quick fix. Luckily for LSU they have some time. From what I understand the loss of Carey is no big deal. Not exactly linemoving information, just food for thought. If a ball flies over the LSU punters head, we can at least say we were warned.
