South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner said Tuesday afternoon that the Gamecocks' matchup with LSU -- scheduled for this Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium at noon -- is not a definite to be held in that venue.
"Our situation regarding football, it's on-going," Tanner said. "We're not 100 percent sure at this time that we'll have a game here at Williams-Brice. While that planning is underway, it is not a definite. We will continue to monitor the infrastructure that is necessary to have a football game."
Tanner says that there are ongoing discussions with President Harris Pastides and other officials about what options the Gamecocks might have if the contest is moved and that a decision would be made in the next 24 to 36 hours.
Tanner said that a game at LSU was a possibility, but several venues have been discussed.
While the structure and playing surface at Williams-Brice Stadium are fine, Tanner and officials have to consider all factors involved in playing a football game in a city severely affected by major flooding before making a final decision.
Issues facing Saturday's game include the water supply, highways and first responders.
Tanner also sent his thoughts and prayers out to those affected by the disaster.
South Carolina has canceled classes for the entire week.
