I'm an idiot, kick me.

Last week, I lost $3000. This week, I've lost another $3000.
icon_frown.gif

I'm done.

For what it's worth, I bet:

PARLAY (500 to win 3000):
NFL
KC -7.5 WINNER
SF -7.5 LOSER
GB -7.5 LOSER

TEASER (500 to win 415):
KC +2.5 WINNER
SF +2.5 LOSER
GB +2.5 LOSER

TEASER (1400 to win _?):
SF +2.5 LOSER
GB +2.5 LOSER

I've ignored the good advice posted about money management, and went off on my own.

I've lost.

I don't have the strength of will to manage my BR. Instead, I go for broke.

No more beting for me.

last topic post. I am out. peace.

Hey big guy - If you had another $3000 to lose, why didnt you put it all on my teaser ?
It is now 3-0 and only one game left. How funny it is that all the naysayers have nothing to say now. Dont worry - maybe the Dolphins will win by 20 tonight and then they can start talking again. And dont worry tey WILL be all over this board yapping like crazy if the Dolphins blow out the Bills tonight.

As far as you losing another $3000, If its true I am sorry. I would have to agree you should take some time off, if you really are losing all this money.

Since my advice last week wasnt advice that you always follow being a gambler, I will give you better advice now. Take some time off and study up on money management and other things before you return. Follow the boards a while to become a better gambler. When you return, come back small. Why would a college student without much money be betting so large. Dont get fooled by the fool posters. They claim to be betting $50,000 a game when they are really betting $5 or nothing. The forum has free contests that these guys jump all over, but when the contest has a $10 entry fee you cant get them to play it. Its funny how the $50,000 a game big shots always seem to live by the " Free Contests ONLY" motto. Dont try to live up to their internet bravado, because for the most part its just BS anyway. There is nothing wrong with betting $5 a play.

Next, dont ever be afraid to post your feelings. Yes if you are outside the box you are going to get slammed. Who cares, the forum members are all strangers anyway. For the most part this forum is filled with unemployed losers who have WAY too much time on their hands. Post what you want and ignore the critics. I knew my post to you last week was going to get my fried. And for the most part ( all with the exception of Jazz) I expected those exact people to come in and start the slamming. Where are they tonight ???? I will tell you, they are hoping to hell the Dolphins crush the Bills so they can start slamming me again. If it doesnt happen, they will not post on the matter again. Dont worry about the attacks - they will come if you are here long enough. Play smaller bets, and limit your parlays. They generally arent smart plays, but then neither are teasers. So I will stop short of saying never play them.

When you decide to come back, call that book that you have lost $6000 to and see if they can give you a deal since you lost so much. Most books will give you a come back bonus, and come back with the attitude that you EXPECT to win. Even if the board slams you for it.

Remeber 1 thing . You win ---- They STFU Up.

hi DannyMay. I did take your teaser. However I only took it for $5 because that's all I had at the moment. Remember, you posted your play with only a few hours before the first game. At that time $5 was all I had available.

A week later, I had more money. I deposited another $2800 into my account. With a western union refund, my total was $2935. As posted above, I put it all on the line.

Now, I am minus $6000. $3000 in week one (totally stupid plays on my part), and another $3000 in week two.

I had confidence in my second week plays. I spent at least 15 to 20 hours last week researching NFL games and thought I had winners. In fact, I am very behind on both school and work paperwork because of the time I've devoted to researching stats and reading local newspaper aricticles of each team that I bet on.

I'm not a kid. Well, perhaps I am, relatively speaking. Yes, I'm a graduate student. but I work 55+ hrs/week and am nearly thirty years old. So forget the "dumb college kid" idea.

Anyway, I've been following your teaser closely. I think it's a strong play and it will most likely win.

You got lucky on the Giants/Cowboys game. Your teaser very easily could have been finished if Dallas had scored a TD late in the 4th quarter. A stronger play would have been picking Dallas +20.

I admit, you saw value in the Ohio State/ Bowling Green game. The books were offline for at least two days on that one.

I'd like to ask you, DannyMay, how much money do you have riding on this teaser? You've recommeded that I dump my entire life savings into this play, so how much do you have riding?

Regardless, I am done betting for quite a while. I cannot take a $6000 loss and come back anytime soon. If anything, I am disgusted and feel like a total loser.

If everything had worked as a I planned, I'd be +$5000 right now instead of -$6000. But I guess that's the way things go.

DannyMay, you suggested I chase my loss on your guaranteed winner. I think that regardless of the outcome of your suggested play, you gave poor advice. I think you had great confidence in your play so much that you bet everthing you had on it, then as a way to comfort your own doubt, you hyped the play to the everyone that would listen.

I hope your play wins. If it does, then you will be richer and can let all the tension built up over the last week go.

Either way, I am done with sportsbetting for quite a while. I got kicked in the balls with a steel toe boot in my first week, then I got to my knees and bet again, then got kicked again.
I can take a kick to the balls once and rise, but not twice. I am taking my negative $6000 ass to the sideline.

good luck, I'm done.

Sun,

I've been following your posts from the beginning and while I haven't said anything to this point I figure I would say something now.

I know it sucks to lose that much money in that short a period of time when you're "going for broke". I think you should know that you're not the only one to drop that much coin in that short a span. I'm sure this board could tell you a million war stories of people (whether on the player side or the bookie side) that lost money like that. I'm not trying to justify your loss but you should know you're not alone when it comes to dropping a lot of dough like that.

The best thing you could do for yourself is back away and take some time. You'll get a broader sense of it all and IF you ever do decide to come back you'll be wiser. Sometimes you can't really LEARN anything unless you experience failure for yourself. FWIW the SF part of your teaser won (13-12 Cleveland final). Green Bay was the bad one...but you weren't the only one on them today (search for Slim's post in the NFL forum and you'll see). Whether you come back to it or not all I can say is good luck to you.

As for DannyMay...I mean come on telling someone to bet their LIFE SAVINGS on a teaser is a little irresponsible. IMO the most important part of being a winner is MONEY MANAGEMENT and telling someone to bet their life savings is just stupid. It's obvious Sun is a newbie and for you to take advantage of a newbie by giving them shoddy $ management advice is just bad news.

"Hey big guy - If you had another $3000 to lose, why didnt you put it all on my teaser ?"

Giving someone advice like that just fuels people's minds that they can dump a few dimes in a book and bet with reckless abandon. If you're telling him to do it why can't he drop 3 grand in and do it on his own?

I will give you props DM for the better advice...and for the not always follow being a gambler line. I think most people want you to win the teaser they were just dissapointed that you wouldn't give a self-proclaimed newbie better advice.

Good luck to both of you...

Sunisthebeast,

I wasnt calling you a dumb college kid, I too am working on my MBA at Ball State right now. I suppose that is the reason I exaggerated the play, because I knew you werent dumb enough to really bet your life savings on it. I didnt bet my life savings either. In truth I only won $1000 on the play ( Risked $1200 to win $1000 ). I also played Miami +1 at HT for $300 as a little hedge because I was kind of worried with the way Miami was playing. I also got lucky last night, without the INT return the teaser would have lost. So all in all I won $1300 only.

Sportsbet

I hear what you are saying.

We all win some and we all lose some. I got lucky pulling this out. Nothing more to say. Good luck to all.

Sun,
My suggestion from looking at your bets is never to gamble on sports again. First you are making fundamental mistakes of playing parlays and teasers. Secondly the teams that you picked were the three most popular public plays.

Third, why are you betting that much of your bankroll on one parlay - and tying up 2 different games in 3 different bets.

Good luck in the future.

I don't know.

I did win $10 last night on MNF though. From now on I'll just lurk the boards and only wager a few dollars per game.

I guess I was placing wagers with a "hit the lottery" type of mindset. Bet big, win big, then celebrate. It went the other way though, bet big, lose big, get depressed.

Some people have to learn the hard way. I must be one of them.

Hey Sun,
You have identified the problem.
Now as a "lurker, why don't you take all the free picks that are posted and follow up to see who does well and who blows smoke. Then when you have some confidence, take a pick or two and make a small bet. "Piggy backing" can be profitable and you might even learn a few tricks along the way
cheerss & good luck

Sun,
You gain very little value in crossing over the zero( pick em) to +2.5 in each of those games. In fact going from -2.5 to + 2.5 gives you much less value than you'd think. There is a lot of value going from -7.5 to -2.5 (as you cross the key #'s of 7 and 3). If you're going to tease a fav you probably shouldn't bother teasing past -2.5.

betting the same teams in different parlays and teasers is not smart...
