and so now begins 7 years of construction problems, infrastructural upheaval, late delivery, cost overruns and dodgy contracts slap bang in the middle of one of the most overpopulated polluted crapholes on the face of planet earth.

or maybe we could compromise with the French and hold the games in the Channel Tunnel...

London won a two-way fight with Paris by 54 votes to 50 at the IOC meeting in Singapore, after bids from Moscow, New York and Madrid were eliminated.

Paris had been favourites throughout the campaign but London's hopes were raised after an impressive presentation by Lord Coe, the bid chairman. IOC president Jacques Rogge made the dramatic announcement at 1249 BST. It will be the first time the Olympics has been held in Britain since 1948.

Eek, you're missing the point - all of those hack jobs that can be doled out to supporters, construction companies and labor unions. All in the name of a good cause and the false hope that such a project will spur the economy on to bigger and better things.

I'm glad it's London and not Boston! We had the Democrat convention here last year and it shut the city down for a week - what a fiasco! And the olympics will last longer than a week.

Good God-damned luck - you Brits are going to need it!

PS - I wonder what kind of plans the terrorist organizations might be making for the event?

I was really hoping the French would win and Paris would get all the crap.
Paris were 3/1 favourites too...

London was 3/1 against so I missed some good value there....as bloody usual

If they make it to London they'll just get lost trying to find anything worth blowing up.

Terrorists are the least of Londons problems.

Follows the Winter Games in Vancouver/Whistler in 2010. That's if we still get snow in 5 years.
