Whether you agree with them or not, these celebrites should keep their views to themselves. I think we'll had enough off people using their celebrity status in the media to push their personal politics to everyone. People come to see them perform and don't give a shit what they think. Do you care what the Dixie Chicks or Linda Ronstadt have to say about world politics?

Disagree entirely.

They are entitled to air their views, IMO.
Whether pro or anti war.

Perhaps things have changed culturally from the 60's, but you seem to have less tolerance of protest in your country nowadays.

That is not a good thing.

Actors and singers are way more liberal than than the general population. They are part of the great liberal media machine which has been sending the same stale message for 40 years. Love thy neighbor, be tolerant, don't be violent, be gay, blah blah blah.

I say let them sing the same song over and over. Conservatives should recognize it for the worthless noise that it is and just get on with bombing Iraq or whatever else is on their priority list.

Or maybe we're just protesting the protestors. You seem to be protesting my protest of the protestors...do you protest that?

She is a skank. I don't have a problem with protests or whatever, but she was hired to do a job ....period. I am sure my job would toss me out if I gave a pro-Bush announcement over the PA system.

Since the incident occurred on Aladdin property and given that she was on the dole of the Aladdin, she should have exercised some restraint had she wanted to keep her job. That's why there's Kerry rallies. She could have been terminated for her antics at those meetings but it would look altogether different than what really happened. Obviously, she has no scruples or she wouldn't have taken a job where she knew she would be annoyed.

I got no problem with Ronstadt being termianted by Aladdin. Their management's job is to please their audience and make money and obviously Ronstadt didn't contribute to that.

On the other hand, what amazes me is the double standard by right wingers like NewsMax. Let's hawk President Bush aviator action figures and Annie Coulter dolls. Better yet, let's give free reign to shameless self-promoters like Toby Keith who from the safety that his mult-million dollar recording contract provides him, advocates sending Americas's sons and daughters off to face mortal danger because after all, "Put a boot up their ass, it's the American way".

Rally round the flag boys - support Toby Keith and help him make more millions. What a patriot...

Even actors and musicians are allowed to be against Bush sending young uneducated Americans to Iraq.

Yes, but there's a time and a place for everything. I think the media has been giving the Iraq conflict all the attention it deserves and then some. I'm sure the people in the audience felt the same way. Maybe they wanted a diversion from all the troubles of the world for an hour or two when they came to hear this dipshit sing. When I go to a movie, I don't want to hear the usher's politic's, nor do I want to see political bullshit during the previews. It's called entertainment. Linda R. is supposed to be an entertainer. Hearing her political point of view is not entertainment (although, in this case, it kind of turned out to be). She should save her politics for the Playboy interview or any other publication that bothers to give her the time of day anymore.

It is a volunteer army asslick! I am so tired of this "other peoples children to war argument"

And if she is paid to perform then just perform. You are Linda Goddamn Ronstadt! Be glad people still show up for your shit.

I am waiting for the next baseball game when a player steps out of the box and grabs the mike to tell us who he is voting for.

Allow me to throw some cold water on this debate.

Ronstadt gave everyone clear warning what she was going to do.

http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2004/Jul-16-Fri-2004/weekly/24299431.html

Read this article which was published BEFORE the concert that caused all this commotion. Notice that she tells the entire world that she is going to dedicate part of the show to Michael Moore because she has been doing that for several weeks.

She has, in the past, made it very clear that she does not like Las Vegas and -- if there is anyone in the US who does not know about the politics of Linda Ronstadt and Jerry Brown -- well -- get your head out of your ass. She has been extremely vocal re her politics.

For you folks that are not from Las Vegas, it really comes down to one thing only: The staff and management of the Aladdin are the stupidest bunch of keystone cop type idiots -- I mean -- it is just unbelievable the dumb things that they do. And they do these sorts of things over and over and over again. That place is a joke.

Anyway, Planet Hollywood is taking over the Aladdin -- and hopefully they will fix all the problems with the entranceway and the bad design of the building -- and I pray that Planet Hollywood will get rid of the entire old management -- and start over.

The Aladdin has a great location, but they have done everything they could to make certain that they fail.

Obviously, if I was in charge, Linda's contract would have defined what was appropropriate and what was not. And, if those conditions were violated, not only would she have forfeit all her earnings -- but she would have paid heavy liquidated damages to the Aladdin -- if she deviated from the narrow definitions of what was allowed in her performance and what was verbotten.

But the folks who run the Aladdin can't think that way. They plain can't think.

Thank You
Dweeb

And just so I am very clear:

"It's amazing how ugly it got," -- quoting Tyri Squyres, director of public relations at the Aladdin.

http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2004/Jul-19-Mon-2004/news/24339959.html

No Squyres -- it is not amazing how ugly it got. It is amazing that a moron like yourself ever got this job. If there was one person in the management at the Aladdin who had 2 brain cells to rub together, you would already be gone.

Aladdin President Bill Timmins told The Associated Press. "She praised him and all of a sudden all bedlam broke loose."

And Mr. Timmins, you were surprised?

Unbelievable.

If anyone from Planet Hollywood is reading this, I just defined the names of two individuals who need to find a job loading garbage trucks -- or doing something else more suited to their skills.

Maybe so Dweeb, but do you think Squyres & Timmins should have better anticipated that reaction? Regardless though, they shouldnt have treated her this way if they knew ahead of time she would be doing that at the end of her show.

Linda is a dumb cunt just like Whoopie for using their celebrity status as a means to try to influence people to the way they believe. Fine...there is such thing as freedom of speech but theres a time and a place for it and i wouldnt appreciate it being a paying customer to listen to her dribble about her political stance. These clebrities should just keep their freaking mouths shut!
