<tt><tt><tt>EXCLUSIVE: LETTERMAN MOCKS MCCAIN CANCELLATION
Wed Sep 24 2008 17:41:58 ET

David Letterman tells audience that McCain called him today to tell him he had to rush back to DC to deal with the economy.

Then in the middle of the taping Dave got word that McCain was, in fact just down the street being interviewed by Katie Couric. Dave even cut over to the live video of the interview, and said, "Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?"

Earlier in the show, Dave kept saying, "You don't suspend your campaign. This doesn't smell right. This isn't the way a tested hero behaves." And he joked: "I think someone's putting something in his metamucil."

"He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second string quarterback, Sara Palin. Where is she?"

"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"

Who cares about David Letterman? No one.

Public opinion you moron. Just like SNL, and Leno will be all over it. Its not like just a select few of the general population watch it.

I recall SNL hammering Bush before last election. I also recall MTV, Puff Daddy and anyone else slacker kids go to to get their ideals from trying to get all these kids to vote and stuff. But in the end tv shows and celebrities wont change people's minds, and the push to get brainwashed teenage slackers out against republicans, will fall short again.

Funniest thing was Letterman telling O'Reilly that he (Letterman) didn't really know anything, but he had the feeling that O'Reilly was "full of crap".

That's telling him, Dave!

LOL..Letterman killed McCain last night. Seems as if he really took it personally.

You'd think McCains campaign would have any brains cancelling saying he had to head to Washington then all of a sudden show up down the hall in Katie Couric's studio to do an interview.

McCain is really having awful week isn't he? LMAO

Biggest Letterman fan in the world, been watching him 25 years.
I don't see him eye to eye on any of his political views, as he is a leftys lefty, but I have to admit, Dave was en fuego last night.
Sharpest he's been in years.

Keith Olberman, his lead guest, filling in for McCain, usually makes my skin crawl when he's on MSNBC (his best days were with ESPN paired with Dan Patrick, was razor sharp as well.
(Having said that, I feel the need to shower :missingte )

I wasn't responding to the OP, sorry. I saw no disrespect in your post, so I wouldn't disrespect it. I was responding to some responses.

Babs is Barbar Stweistwand, a/k/a a famous economic guru.

The reason Letterman is so important is that his audience is the SWING VOTE. The people who don't really follow politics ... and last night's rant was tough for McCain ... but if DL takes this personally and trashes McCain for a couple of weeks and highlights his mistakes everyday, it could really hurt McCain.

I'm tryin to tell these people. (tisk, tisk) They think its irrelevant. But then again, they think the "real" voters watch only the Fox News Channel. These people will never understand that the votes that pushed Clinton over the top were the ones who saw him play the saxaphone on Arsenio Hall. AND PEOPLE THINK I'M JOKING WHEN I MENTION THAT.

I'll always remember the next day at work after the 92 election when Clinton won. Mind you not all of my co-workers are politically active nor aware. They're your average Joe's and Jane's. Don't care to much for politics, etc, etc. I asked em the next day after Clinton won. "did you vote for Clinton and if so why. You know what 90% of the responses were? "yea, I voted for Clinton. He's more popular. He seems cool". Mind you at the time most of my co-workers were in thier 20's and 30's. Needless to say, they couldn't name one policy Clinton stood for. In the end, they just felt they could relate to him or that they saw him on Arsenio Hall.

Like I you said Cincy, "Swing Voters. The ones who don't follow politics" And you are correct, if late night TV starts to pile on McCain and start a trend?? McCain will be finished.

you know and another thing. Most of these people who watch television don't care about the difference between a liberal or conservative opinion. It's not that serious to them.
