Thousands of athletes participate yet only few win medals. That is to be expected. The problem is there is only a handful of legitimate contenders for each event...the rest are fillers. I look at the Canadian team...total medals won ZERO. What an embarrassment.

The athletes invite their families, freinds and neighbours...the coaches do the same...the politicians bring their own clan....the medical staff and trainers bring their crew...at the end of the night it's ONE BIG PARTY.:drink:

No, absolutely not. If you don't get a great feeling watching our athletes on that podium listen to our National Anthem and watching the American Flag raise, then you are definitely in the minority!

It doesn't bother me at all. I'm personally proud of the Canadian athletes even if they don't have a single medal. We aren't very good in the Summer Olympics minus Rowing and maybe Diving, and most of us knew that going in. The funding has really only started and is no where near countries like China, USA and Australia.

But nowadays just like everything else is bastardized by the media and politicians.

The spirit of the Olympics is that every four years we put our differences aside and do something together thru sports

The Olympics seemed a lot more meaningful back in the 80's. Beating the Russians at hockey and all that stuff.

Nowdays, it just seems like a giant commercial. Plus they give away medals for every ridiculous sport imaginable. It's kinda cheapened the whole thing.
