Here's what I had in mind: It would be between Doc and either MIMS or anyone else who cares to represent the anti-Doc side that we can agree on.
The rules would be as follows:
1) No name calling or personal attacks. This includes anything directed at the poster personally and not at what the poster said. It doesn't have to involve insulting the person's mama or relating to sexual acts. It could be as mild as "you are so glued to Fox news that you can't think for yourself". If it is directed at the poster and is not about what the poster said, or can't be backed up with evidence such as a quote from that poster, then it is a personal attack.
2) No frivolous attacks on politicians or public figures. For example, it is not appropriate to say something like "Rove and Hannity just came back from an orgy". If you say something negative about a public figure, it must be substantiated with an argument, facts, or a link to credible source.
3) No cutting and pasting except as support for an argument, and even then it must be put on quotes or otherwise made obvious that it is a cut/paste, and it must not exceed a headline plus a single paragraph. If you reference a longer piece, it must be given as a link and not copied into the post. The post must be still be coherent if you remove the cut/paste portion.
4) Posts must stay on topic. Every post must relate in some way to the topic being debated. Unrelated information must be tied in to the subject matter and shown why it is relevant.
I would be the moderator and I would keep track of rules violations by each party. Any time I see a violation I would point it out and keep a running total of the violations by each side.
The winner of the debate would be decided by consensus but the number of violations would be there for everyone to see.
As soon as we can agree on who should be Doc's debating opponent and the topic, then I will start the official debate thread. We could eventually have several official debates going simultaneously if you like, but let's start with just one or two and then see how it goes.
If you would like to amend the rules above, let's discuss that here and see if we can all agree to a set of rules.
