I was in the Bahamas this past August and they were preparing to open a sportsbook in the casino. Does anyone know if this is open for business yet?

Where in the world do they have LEGAL Sportsbooks besides Las Vegas?

SHERMAN.........QUOTE....."any shot of sports wagering becoming legal in the land of the free?"

outside of vegas.........no and never......lots of people at this forum will disagree with me on this......citing the fact that casinos, lottos, greyhound and horseracing are legal in many states..........so naturally sports betting will be next......(that thingy in oregon doesnt count).......sorry it will not happen anytime soon........

if anything more restrictions on sports betting will happen

There was a law, actually an act of congress, passed in 1992, that outlawed sportsbetting in the United States. It is called Bill Bradley's "Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act." Oregon, Delaware and Nevada were Grandfathered in. So unless there is an act of Congress the answer to your question is NO. By the way that is the same Bill Bradley that played for the NY KNICKS.

I wouldn't be so sure of that Oscar. Most legal experts think all it would take is a simple court case and the Congress would lose their law. Fact is no one really wants to fight it, there just isn't enough money to be made catering to sports bettors. Delaware is talking about possibly adding it to the menu, but just to offset all the lost revenues they have had since they banned indoor smoking. I agree though with the experts though, there just isn't enough reason to have it legalized and not enough enforcement of the laws to make anyone seriously push legalization. If you want to bet sports you probably are doing it anyways.

Many of us have gone to them. You have to pay a tax on your winnings though, last I heard it was 2%. You get no chance to shop for a line, its a monopoly. Worst of all if you go on a weekend every major border c****ing right now has a long line thanks to all the security. Used to be you could make a quick trip ac**** the border to the book in TJ or Juarez, both have a spot to bet literally within a 2 minute walk so you could make a bet and get back ac**** in a half hour or so. Now if you try that on a Saturday or Sunday it may take you two hours, even if you are just a pedestrian. TJ used to be at worst a 10 minute wait to get through immigration, now it can be 90-150 minutes on weekends. Cars can be 3 hours attimes. So yeah it is true you can go there and bet it, but the hassle factor has just gotten so bad.
