When you say "great move", I assume you mean "great luck"? It isn't like the Cavs did anything special to get LeBron. All they did was tank the 2002-03 season, giving them a crappy record and increasing their odds of winning the LeBron lottery. But I'll give Gordon Gund credit, he is a crafty businessman. The value of the Cavs franchise had basically hit rock-bottom, so why not tank the season and try to get LeBron (thus boosting the value of the franchise)?
The Cavs franchise has done next to nothing in their 30 years. If it wasn't for the Price/Nance/Daugherty era, they'd be chasing the Clippers for overall futility.
The owner before Gordon Gund made so many bad trades that the NBA revoked his trading rights! When Gordon Gund bought the team, the NBA had to give the Cavs extra draft-picks in order to finalize the deal.
The Price/Nance/Daugherty era was nice, but several of the key players during that era came from the same draft. If you look @ the rest of Cleveland's draft history, it is TERRIBLE. I'm guessing there are several people in this forum who could've drafted better.
Fortunately for the Cavs, they got LeBron. Years and years of failure were finally rewarded with the most exciting player since Jordan.
