Does anyone have a good angle on this matchup? This is a tough one being an in-state rivalry game played in of all places, Las Vegas. Tough for me to pick a side, as Utah was the better team this year wih a SOS #26 versus BYU's at #68. But then Utah's best players on offense RB Booker is out and the QB really ain't that great as well. Not bad, but nothing special and they don't have a lot of offensive weapons. Utah with the great special teams, BYU can't run the ball but have a talented QB with good receivers but the Utes D is pretty good. I made this game Utah -1 so hard to find much value, the RLM telling me to take the points with Mormons, but a bit concerned with Mendenhall jumping ship to Virginia what will be the BYU mindset?

I'm guessing this will be a tight game...at least Vegas thinks so with Utah -2.5. I like Utah to cover mainly
because their defense allowed the second fewest points in the Pac 12 conference. Also, Utah's field goal
kicker hit 23 of 27 this season and made all his extra points. He's tied for third nationally while BYU's kicker
is tied for 59th. Mendenhall leaving for Virginia (could) also be a distraction.

That's an excellent point to consider, the booze, gambling, and women of Sin city can certainly take their toll. I think we've seen this happen over the years with various teams having poor performances when coming to Vegas to play UNLV. For BYU players, who I believe are mostly Mormon they are not allowed to drink so it's not as much of a problem. Plus many of the BYU players are older and might already be married as well. Think I'm going to stay away from this game, but will take BYU in a pool play.
This is not the bowl Utah wanted to go to. They felt they deserved a bigger bowl and it seems the partying is more important to them than the game. Plus, don't forget this is BYU's coach last game before he goes to Virginia and the players want to win for him. This is a great setup for BYU.
Yeah I kind of get the feeling that Utah has to be somewhat disappointed with this Las Vegas Bowl as they were ranked all the way up to No. 3 in late October and even had College Game Day visit SLC. After finishing the season 3-3 SU, losing out on the playoffs and then not even making the Rose Bowl which I think was the prize they were after. So now they face a BYU team whom they have beaten 4 times in a row so this is a revenge situation for BYU as well. If the line goes to 3 I will probably take some BYU action tomorrow.
Trash talk by Utah before the game starts. Back in the day this was never a good thing to do unless your name was Brian Bosworth and last I checked his eligibility has expired. BYU for me. I'll be in the south end zone first row behind the goal post. I'll be the guy mooning the extra point when Utah scores. Rx'er for life..
I also had this line being Utah -1 and I like the Utes to smash their rival. May not be fancy, but effective solid team football on both sides of the ball.

I'm there purely for the fun. Huge game, not for the nation, for the crowd at the stadium. It's going to get "Crazy" in there behind the cemented bleachers where the liquid vasiline gets served. I may be betting BYU with a drink in my hand and with BYU colors to boot! Utah fans love it here and they had a great time last year and they are a bit looooser this year than last. Utah could be taking this thing a bit too granted. Utah is hard for me to figure out because they expected early in the season to be in a higher bowl.....but now....lower tier bowl...ho humm...and all of a sudden it's BYU! No Bowl let down here, in fact both teams don't give one shit about the bowl because it's about coming on top of people 43 miles away who hate each other and here they have another shot to overcome the other. I made decision in this battle and my heart says Utah but my money says BYU.
