My laptop has been making a "whirring/rattling" kind of noise on and off the past few days. Not really loud, but enough to be annoying. I just got it in September. Could it be that it has been on nonstop for almost two days? Sorry..just really don't know much about computers and such.

Being on non-stop shouldnt be the cause. If its the fan, hearing it is probably good thing as you dont want it to stop and cause overheating. Leaving a cd in can cause a whirring sound. Worst case the hard drive makes a rattling/scratching noise before going out.

If you have any valuable info you cant do without make sure you do a backup just in case.

I had the same problem once and it was under warranty. They replaced the fan. I was told to get a bracket that i got at Walmart that holds it off the table so that it can get air easier. Really nifty bracket, cost 15.00 and you can adjust at the angle you want to put laptop in. It has about 5 different angles and helps the strain on the neck off looking up and down all the time.

Actually, if the fan is making that much noise-it's probably going bad.

Don't leave it on until you get it looked at-if the fan is going bad, you could fry it & cost yourself some serious $$$$.

Computer fans go bad all the time-they are cheap shit.
