I've heard this rumor on other message boards, but had not seen a link.
It's not a "bad" hire. He comes from very good pedigree. He'll be the second Pete Carroll assistant to come to the SEC as a Head Coach. Orgeron failed....but, personally, I think it's easier for an offensive minded coach to succeed as a first time head coach rather than a defensive one (Stoops is an exception. We'll see regarding Pelini). Anyhow, if Kiffin uses the principles that Pete Carroll taught him he should/could succeed. But, he's still go to contend w/ the SEC East - Meyer, Richt, Spurrier....

as a UT fan, it would be a ridiculous hire...basically we'd be getting our very own Ed Orgeron...Kiffin has accomplished jack squat, and if he's so great then why isn't Washington interested? This is a sick joke that we'd take him over Kelly or Patterson, people who have already proven that they can be successful D-1 coaches. This would compete with Zook I, Zook II, and Orgeron for worst BCS hires in recent memory. Kiffin is not qualified to be the Vols next head coach. Period.
