I know Intertops isn't exactly a high rollers book, but I was just trying to place a bet on Canada to beat Russia tonight in the World Junior's Hockey Championship at -.5 -182, and was surprised that the limit was... to win $60?!?!? Why bother putting up a number if you're going to set the limit that low?

That's not the first time I've seen that happen (earlier in the NFL season they had certain games limited to $100 even though they weren't circled anywhere else), but I've never seen them offer a limit that low before. I assume it's because their limits are usually "to risk" and not "to win."

I forgot to mention that Intertops's hold on that bet (Canada -.5 -182, Russia -.5 +225, Draw +390) is a whopping 13.58%. In soccer's English Premiership match between Arsenal and Man City, they're generously offering over 2.5 goals at -167 and under 2.5 goals at +100, and the limit on the over is to win $66. Limiting people to $60 or $66 with an enormous vig like that is simply incompetent bookmaking.

beetman, I've just checked that bet and my limit was to win $110.

Looks to me like you've been winning too much.:nono5:

Intertops is an iffy book at times. They definitely will slap ridiculous limits on players who have only won a little bit. One repeated pattern I have monitored is that limits will go down immediately after a payout is taken. I suppose that makes sense as that would be a tangible alert to assess the account.

But even besides that, they have some really silly (in my judgement) limits. I recall only being able to put about $100 on a Nascar match-up for a race that was 3 or 4 hours away. By race time, it had gone up some but that's still not a good situation IMO. In that vein, some of their overnight limits are basically a joke. I recently had an NFL pointspread - I repeat, AN NFL POINTSPREAD - wager I wanted to place but I could only risk $275 on an overnight.

You were correct to point out that these limits are often hand-in-hand with some nutty vig. Like I've seen boxing match-ups with low limits (by industry standards) where the line is, say, -550/+300 - AND they'll have the DRAW line built in there too (whereas Pinny would have something more like -400/+360 and you get a push on a draw.

I find that Intertops serves a purpose but there are some definite Mickey Mouse qualities on display.

That's odd, as long as I've been using Intertops, their limits have always been on the "to risk" amount, not "to win.'" On the USA/Czech game my limit is to risk $110 on either USA, Czech, or draw.

I'd be awfully surprised if Intertops had cut my limits since I've only beaten them for a couple thousand dollars and my typical bet size is only about $100 anyway.

not to be offensive to anyone but why do you put up with crap like that I had a complaint about juice on soccer at olympic. It just forces me to play the games elsewhere. any event with a limit under 500 is a joke.

I concur on that too. They only seem to offer a "to risk" amount - even on an ML of -800 (or whatever). Another weak policy IMO.

And of course the answer to Tang's question of why put up with it?

Simple: because I still make money using them. They have opinionated lines often enough to make them worthwhile. (Certainly I find their lines more opinionated than RX favorite, Skybook, by a longshot - but don't get me started on how much Skybook is over-rated around here.)

But I usually have anywhere from 15-20 accounts going at any given time. If I were to cut that down, Intertops would be one of the first to go.

Yes, their limits are ridiculously low, it seems it's hit or miss on what their limit is on certain events.
