as we all know - when betting the lakers it is a dangerous thing to do because you never know when they are coming to play. IF you know they are coming to play - they are worthy of consideration for a play.

well - the lakers are coming to play THIS game. games 4 & 5 - who knows. but today's G3 - they are coming to play so they can be assured of coming home in this series.

with that in mind, i am going to go against the public here who bet the lakers down to "pick."

Lakers - Pick

LOVE YOUR PLAY WINKY, I AM ALL OVER THE LAKERS, THEY LOVE TO WIN THE FIRST GAME ON THE OPPOSING TEAMS FLOOR TO GAIN HOME-COURT RIGHT BACK, ONCE THEY WIN TONIGHT IT WILL BE 2-1 LA JUST AS IF THEY HAD WON THE FIRST 2 GAMES AT HOME, MALONE WILL BE A FACTOR AS WELL

BECAUSE THE OPENING LINE WAS LAKERS -1.5 AND NOW ITS DOWN TO A PK, THAT MEANS THE PUBLIC PUT SO MUCH MONEY ON THE PIST-ONS THAT THEY DROVE THE LINE DOWN TO A PICK, TOO MANY PEOPLE WERE TAKING DETROIT +1.5, USE YOUR HEAD BEFORE YOU SPEAK NEXT TIME...

You don't think Detroit can exploit Lakers weakness at powerforward? Malone is injured badly and might not even play. If he does play, he will be 50% at best. He seriously injured his knee. SPrained MCL I think. Lakers have nobody big at powerforward.

AND WHO DOES DETROIT HAVE TO STOP KOBE & SHAQ? IF SHAQ DECIDES TO PLAY DEFENSE, REBOUND THE BALL, BLOCK SHOTS AND RUN THE FLOOR YOU CAN FORGET ABOUT DETROIT EVEN WINNING ANOTHER GAME IN THIS SERIES, THE BIG FELLA CONTROLS THE ENTIRE ASPECT OF THE GAME....

martel901,

Just so I understand your opinion, are you saying that Shaq has decided not to play this series? The Lakers got their a$$ pounded in game 1 and needed a miracle shot by Kobe Bryant to force overtime. The Lakers are a lucky shot away from 0-2. For your sake, I hope that Shaq hasn't played to this point because if he has been playing and they're putting forth this kind of piss poor effort, Detroit could give them the Howitzer.

WELL ALL I AM SAYING IS 7 REBOUNDS IN 48 MINUTES OF GAME 2 SHOW'S ME THE HUSTLE ASPECT COMING FROM SHAQ LIKE HE HAD IN THE FINAL 4 GAMES AGAINST SAN ANTONIO AND IN THE SERIES AGAINST MINN. HAS NOT BEEN THERE QUITE YET, REMEMBER SHAQ IN THE FINALS FOR HIS CAREER IS A 34 AND 16 A NIGHT IN 3 PREVIOUS FINALS WITH THE LAKERS. IF WE CAN GET THAT KIND OF EFFORT FROM THE BIG FELLA NOTHING DETROIT CAN DO WILL PREVENT THE LAKERS FROM WINNING A 4TH CHAMPIIONSHIP IN THE LAST 5 YEARS, THATS A DYNASTY IF ANYONE THOUGHT OTHERWISE...

The good news for Lakers is the role players still have not played well as a group. They continue to miss open shots that the great Piston defense keeps on giving them. George and Payton were combined 0-5 in the 1q missing 5 wide open shots. If these open shots fall in, Pistons are doomed. They been lucky so far. Also, Billups is an extremely streaky player and he has played 2 great games in a row. Will he continue to play well? Will the Pistons continue to get more fouls?

Fouls called by team from the 10:22 mark
Fouls called by team from the 10:22 mark of the 3rd quarter when the Lakers got the lead to double digits until just over a minute to play in regulation when the Pistons went up 5 (roughly 21 minutes of basketball).

Against the Lakers 15
Against the Pistons 4

During that stretch the Pistons attempted 20 (making 17) freethrows to the Lakers 6 (making 3).

Something to consider.

SCOTT4USC:

KNOW I LIKE HOW YOUR TALKING, BILLIPS IS STREAKY, DETROIT NEVER GETS THAT MANY FOULS SHOTS, ITS USUALLY THE LAKERS WITH THAT # OF FREE THROWS, AND LOOK OUT FOR DEVEAN GEORGE AND GP TONIGHT TO HAVE BIG GAMES, I EXPECT BOTH TO BE IN DOUBLE FIGURES, MAYBE 10 A PIECE BUT THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH IF YOU ADD THEM UP TO THE BENCH SCORING AND THE 60 YOUR GONNA GET FROM KOBE AND SHAQ....

Not sure I understand the luck part of pulling up in someone's face burring a shot with the clock running out. It was a drawn up play. And Kobe has done it many times before.

EXPECT MALONE TO PLAY- I've seen this with him so many times while with the Jazz. He was injured many times and played every time. Even though his offense is gone he can still put a body on Sheed. If you like the Lakers, Malone playing should give you another reason. If you like the Pistons, his injury is reason to believe wallace has a big game and Pistons win it.

Detroit wins this game comfortably. Better "team". Malone will be unable to play defense, Payton has lost his confidence in his own words, and Fisher's knee will slow him down in Detroit. Plus, all motivation is with the Pistons at home. Crowd will lift Pistons to play at a higher level. Expect to see tremendous intensity from Detroit tonight with swarming defense and attacking the rim on offense. Lakers will not be able to keep pace with this level of intensity on the road tonight. Take the Pistons!

oldirtyku,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Kobe is not a greater than 50% 3 point shooter. In fact, in the playoffs as of game 2 Kobe is hitting a paltry .259 and he hit .327 in the regular season. What this means, oldirtyku, is that out of 1,000 3 point shots he'll miss 673. Now when you miss more than you make that is what makes it luck because the odds say that you will miss. You, like a lot of people, only choose to remember what you want to remember in order to keep the fantasy alive.

Good luck

Ted as usual was right on the money here. Shaq takes one shot and can't bully Big Ben. Kobe...well...not much to say he was awful and didn't look like he was working very hard to get free (Detroit isn't that bad at playing D either but Kobe looked really lazy). Malone was actually pretty good early when he was moving well and making some easy patented Malone jumpers but when he got banged up there went his contribution. Payton looks old and slow and always has that "you have to be kidding me" look on his face.

The Lakers bench was pathetic. They got completely destroyed by the Pistons bench 50-17. I haven't seen the Lakers play ONE game with 100 percent effort yet in this series. I can't forsee putting money on this team just because they're the Lakers and they're supposed to come back.

There is a silver lining though and it's the two days off before they play Game 4 on Sunday. I have seen this in other sports work to the favor of the team that has lost a game in a playoff series and then has the 2 day break (instead of 1) before having to play again even if it is on the road so that is one possible silver lining but Larry Brown is good at keeping his team prepared so it's up in the air.

Good luck!

sb
