The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a four-year contract with JJ Redick to make him the franchise's next coach, sources told ESPN on Thursday.
Redick, an ESPN NBA analyst who played 15 years in the league, met with Lakers vice president and general manager Rob Pelinka and owner Jeanie Buss over the weekend, and conversations on the vacancy continued throughout the week, sources said.
Pelinka became sold on Redick's ability to connect with players and his basketball IQ and believes surrounding Redick with an elite coaching staff will help to shorten his learning curve into his first coaching job, sources said.
Redick moved into the forefront of the search a week ago after the Lakers' pursuit of Connecticut coach Dan Hurley was ultimately rebuffed.
The Lakers offered Hurley a six-year, $70 million contract that he turned down early last week, sources said.
As Pelinka did with Hurley, he still wants a teaching coach and staff who will prioritize the development of young players such as Max Christie, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura and can design a creative approach to featuring Anthony Davis on both ends of the floor, sources said.
Redick has a strong relationship with Lakers star LeBron James, with whom he co-hosts a basketball podcast.

No doubt they sign jabronny next, and the season will be full of injuries ailing stars missing significant time (Davis and Labooziez) reddick is a puppet , modern nba coaches are just babysitters , it’s one on one isolation not there kick it out for three with no defense. hope it ends poorly for that team.

I'm giving JJ the benefit of a doubt. I think he's as smart as it gets

Although I don't think the Lakers are coachable

Smart guy, but no coaching experience whatsoever

LeBron and Redick will be co-coaches

The greatest franchise in NBA history continues to be tarnished by bad Jeannie Buss decision

And I hate to say this as biggest LeBron supporter here

But even I am starting to get fatigued by him at this stage

Can't See Him As the Lakers HC 4 Years From Now. Might Get Through 3 Years At The Most.

Caruso to OKC will turn out to be the most impactful event on the day they hire JJ. Let's just wait for the next stupid roster move by the Lakers...maybe Russell Westbrook is available? Lakers were much better when Jennie Buss was sleeping with Phil Jackson rather than Jay Mohr.

Yes...I know that as does everyone else on this site. Russell Westbrook also used to be on the Lakers. Alex Caruso, a former Los Angeles Laker, was traded by the Chicago Bulls to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma which will turn out, in the future, to be the most impactful event on the day the Los Angeles Lakers, Alex Caruso's former team, hired former NBA and Duke University player Johnathan Clay Riddick, who is known by JJ, who most recently was employed by the Entertainment and Sports Network as the lead analyst for their National Basketball Association basketball broadcasts which is their over the air venue is what I would have typed if I knew that some readers could not connect the dots between two events that occurred in the NBA. I'll forgo the definition and explanation of the term, "sleeping with."
