La Fortuna/Tamarindo

Does anyone know of the best route to get from La Fortuna to Tamarindo (Playa Langosta). I have been to both places, but starting point being SJ area. Not real sure how to go starting out in La Fortuna to get to Playa Langosta.....Any help would be great.

you would go to Tilaran first, that road was AWFUL not long ago, not sure I can recommend that unless you have a 4x4

Well I don't have a 4x4 but I do have a high profile truck...Ford Explorer with all terrian tires on it......Is that road to Tilaran worse than the road to Monte Verde?

never been to Monteverde but from what I have heard Monteverde is same or worse than Fortuna-Tilaran

Thanks Wolfie.....If that is the only road then I really have no choice but to try and take it and see what happens....Unless I want to drive half way back to SJ and go back up the PanAmerican hwy, but that would take too long I think....

on the same line, if you do that (go back to PanAM and then up) make sure you take the bridge over Tempisque.....if you go "the old way" to Liberia and then East.......that road is another disaster and in this case you do have an alternative

La fortuna-Monteverde

I think there is a road from la fortuna or san carlos to monteverde, is also a terrible road, but maybe it's shorter, another recomendation is asking a local tourist driver in la fortuna for posible routes.

That road to Monteverde is the worst road I have been on in my entire life.....I made the mistake after I first arrived here in CR to take my car out to Monteverde....Very bad mistake.....ended up poping a hole in my oil pan on that damn road in the middle of now where, and to top it off of course no cell phone signal....Now that I got a bigger vehicle, I know I wouldn't drop my oil pan, but one time was enough for me on that road..
