Monfils was the tired looking one today
Agree Monfils shows signs of brilliance then makes some bone heads plays.... nasty serveMonfils is an incredible athlete and will be a top tier player in the near future, but he hasn't played on hardcourts very often, and was playing in his first match after an injury. You can do as much training and conditioning as you want, but it's a little different playing in a competitive game again for the first time in a while and you're bound to get tired and make some unforced errors.
With all that said though he did play pretty well. Andreev was on his game and Monfils pushed him to the limit.
dead onBeing athletic means shit. Monfils is one of the most tactically inept players on tour. His technique isn't great either. For a guy with his power and size, he's played like a pusher for a long time. Terrible stuff. It doesn't help that he changes coaches every few months, and seemingly injures himself every week. This guy needs huge changes in his game, especially strategically, if he ever wants to make it big.
What player goes out against Igor Andreev and decides to stand 3 feet behind the baseline, and push no-pace midcourt junkballs to Igor's FH (one of the biggest shots in tennis). The kid is a true mug.
