ok, never mind the fact the seabags lost a game they shoulda won.

down 18-17 w/2 minutes left and no timeouts, he knows if arizona runs a play, is stopped, then kicks a FG by the time seattle gets the ball back they will still need a TD to win. (i didn't see the game but i assume) he lets emmitt run in for a TD (just like he did with Terrell Davis in the SB) so he can get the ball back with almost 2 minutes left on the clock and a better chance of scoring.
things don't work out as Hasslebeck throws an INT - but at least holmgren gave his team a chance to win - something most coaches don't do at the end of the game (see andy reid).

i say see andy reid - for at the end of regulation with the browns at the doorstep of the end zone to tie the game Reid NEVER calls a timeout to save time for his offense to get a FG, and lets the clock run and run and run and run and...and by the time the eagles get the ball they have LESS than 30 seconds left. but they still have those 3 worthless timeouts - NONE of which they ended up using. Reid let a good 45 seconds go. would you rather have 3 timeouts and 30 seconds left to try and get into FG range or 1 minute and NO timeouts to do so? for me - offense controls the clock - so i want my team with the ball with more time and less (or ZERO) timeouts. STUPID clock management by Andy Reid and he is lucky it didn't cost him!

I saw that in a high school game once (for the state championship). One team was down my 1 point and let the other team run it in for a TD with the resulting extra point instead of letting them run down the clock. The team that was down by 8 then marches back down the field and scores the 2-pointer to put the game into OT.

btw- the team that was down by 8 eventually lost the game. Good coaching though.

Everyone thought Emmit did something to break the record :biglaugh: . It amazes me how clueless almost all coaches and about the entire football public is when it comes to this strategy.

What are the odds an NFL kicker is going to miss a 29 yard field goal or score a TD and leave NO time on the clock for you. If there were more coaches in the world that had a half a brain cell, in that situation they would allow the other team to score so that they had a realistic chance (and some time on the clock) to allow their own offense a chance to tie the game up.

Good move, just turned out Hasselback sucked today.

Tought luck.

I Disagree. It Was 3rd And 9 At The Two Minute Warning. If They Stop Emmitt, Arizona Kicks A Field Goal And Seattle Gets The Ball Back With Approx. 1:10-1:20. That Is Plenty Of Time To Get It Done After A Kickoff Return. Plus You Would Only Be Down 4 Instead Of 8 Causing You To Need To Convert A Two Point Conversion.

They Did Not Let Emmitt Run In. He Is Simply The Best Ever.

Holmgren never would have been in this position if he had "GOTTEN IT" and benched Hasselbeck in favor of Dilfer. Hasselbeck was given about 40 chances throughout this game to get in a rythm and prove to Holmgren he is a staring qb in the league. Dilfer is a very proven capable backup qb and Holmgren should have given his team a chance to win by putting Dilfer in after Hasselbeck threw his 3rd int.

Emmitt should of retired about 3-4 years ago. Took him that long to break Paytons record.
