Well it is finally here! One of my favorite days of the year is opening day in the NFL. Always seems like we have a couple big upsets and big injuries that affect teams for the rest of the season. My guess is today is no different.

$100 Cleveland Browns +4......Mangini and Favre get a chance to go against each other on opening day. Minnesota is getting hyped off the charts but can't figure out why they are not favored by more. Under Brad Childress last 2 years, Vikings have been slow starters especially on the road where they are 1-5 su and 1-3-2 ats past 6 Sept. road games. Mangini's team were poor against the run last year under Crennel but he brought in 3 former Jets for the front 7 in Kenyon Coleman, Eric Barton, and David Bowens to stop the run and to implement his 3-4 defense. I see a ball control offense for Cleveland today with runs and short passes to keep off the pass rush and to keep AP off the field. Believe this will be a tight game but also a game that Browns are a live dog in.

$300 Arizona Cardinals -6....Another interesting line considering how poor Arizona looked on both sides of the ball in preseason and how well SF played. Problem is AZ is one of those teams that flips the light switch on when it counts and plays horribly when it doesn't. SF is one of the few teams that have had success consistently in the desert ats that is, but feel Cardinals will come out on opening day and make a statement to the rest of the league who have basically written off their near SB victory as fluke and have predicted they won't even make the playoffs. They will run the ball much better this year with Beanie Wells and the defense that made big strides in playoffs will continue to shine. Az wins this game going away.

$500 Green Bay -4......Another team getting hyped up in Central is the Bears. Problem is their secondary is awful and if they can't consistently get pressure on the quarterback, they will give up a ton of points this year. Green Bay is primed and ready for this game. Lovie Smith has made Green Bay his home away from home until ly losing for the first time as Bears coach in GB. This should be a very offensive game but feel Rogers/Company on offense combined with Dom Capers wanting to put on a show defensively with his new 3-4 defense, Packers win this game by double digits.

$100 Houston -4......This year's Arizona Cardinals will be the Texans. Jets come in for first game under Ryan with Sanchez at the helm. Texans are focused on getting out of the gate early this year as they were 8-8 last 2 years but basically season was over at halfway mark. This will be a statement game for Schaub, Johnson, Slaton, etc. to show the league they are for real.

$500 Detroit +14......Yes I am taking the Lions to keep this one close. New Orleans may very well have a great season but really like the Lions to come out and be game in this one coming off of 0-16. New coach, new qb, and some improved defensive players add up to a great effort today. NO may struggle running the ball with no Pierre Thomas today as well to boot as Bush still has not proven he can be consistent. This means Brees likely throws 50 times. NO should win today but have a hunch to Lions are going to be in this game to the very end.

I may differ from you in the NFL...but I would back off and let you take me off a game in NCAA.

GL Kojak, seems like you've been here for a decade! I love DET as well, well I love ANY double digit dog in the NFL (except BUF and KC this week since they fired their o-coordinators a week before the season)! Win or lose this is the play of the day IMO, gl to you!

$300 Atlanta/Miami over 43.5....Atlanta may very well have one of the worst defenses this season to match their explosive offense. I have this total at 53 so plenty of value here as well.

Good to hear from everyone. Regarding over in Superdome, I normally would but feel Detroit's defense under new coach Schwantz may be much improved and then you throw in fact I don't think they will be able to run, there may be a lot of yardage through the air and a few more fg's than td's. To me it will be close so a no play.

$100 St. Louis +9-120.....Rams are 0-8 su in last 8 games vs Seahawks. But that was under Holmgren for the Hawks and 2 lousy Ram coaches. Hawks are likely without both starting tackles today which plays into Rams defensive strength which is their front 7. Both Mora and Spagnola are coaching their 1st games today and I expect a valiant effort from the Rams in former Giants defensive coordinator's debut who by the way had a ton of success holding down Hawks in the past. Rams should cover here and very well may pull upset.
