pros and cons with it.

pro: more basketball.

con: games take energy out of the teams. enough is enough. let em dance.

pro: cinderella tourney factor. long shot winning the automatic bid. drama factor.

cons: teams that are in resting players, not worrying about a loss.

pro: gets teams prepared for the rigors of the tournament.

con: takes away from the regular season title, conference champion should receive automatic bid like the ivy league does it.

tough one for me.

I think they should keep them, winning big east or acc title means a ton to them. Almost as much as getting to a final 4.

They won't get rid of them from a revenue standpoint. I say keep for betting purposes.

Get rid of them for smaller conferences.

Weber State goes 15-1 and loses so they don' t make the dance, give me a break.

which is why i think i'll vote for get rid of them. i like more of an emphasis on a regular season like you see in the ivy league. and like you said, the dominant small time teams that dont win like weber end up on the outside.

winners of the conference tournaments get automatic bids, that's 32. and then 32 at large.

this is the dumbest poll ever..Why would they ever get rid of them? Its not even a question to get rid of them and some of these tournaments have been around longer then the Big Dance. This is what makes March great. You spend an awful lot of time on this board for someone that doesn't bet. I hope they leave your Gophers out so you can bitch on Sunday night

Sorry, Didn't even know that you "called me out" and I'm at least 8 years older then you so I don't know who you are calling kiddo, I'm sure your over/under would be 21 and I would play the under there.

Conference Tournamnents are a huge part of March Madness,
Look at Syracuse for example, what they have done the last few nights is amazing and one of the greatest memories I'll ever have, The Cuse could get knocked out in the Big Dance and it wouldn't even matter because they have already given the people what they want----greatness!!!!!!
Jonny Flynn for President!!! There I'll say it.

Everybody loves a tournament;

pros and cons with it.

pro: more basketball.

con: games take energy out of the teams. enough is enough. let em dance.

pro: cinderella tourney factor. long shot winning the automatic bid. drama factor.

cons: teams that are in resting players, not worrying about a loss.

con: takes away from the regular season title, conference champion should receive automatic bid like the ivy league does it.

tough one for me.

whether its horseshoes, dartball, cribbage, volleyball or basketball, especially the teams (and their fans) who feel they can make a run for the championship.

Conference championships usually take the better part of a full season to determine; tournament play produces an instant champion during a short period of time (a week-end in most cases) and they can be exciting.

The fact that basketball (tournaments) are usually played at singular locations creates the "prominade affect" where the players and fans show up, "hang around", and perhaps "strut" a bit. Everyone loves to show-up for a "shoot-out" and present their wears.

Conference tourneys are here to stay.

From a fan standpoint, I don't like them at all. There's nothing enjoyable about watching games where one team is playing their asses off because they're on the bubble, and the other team could care less because they already know they're going to be a 3 seed, win or lose. I guess from a betting standpoint it's a good thing because those games are very predictable, but they're painful to watch IMO.

since you want to put everything onto winning the conference then why not just do away with at large bids too!!!!!! you win your conference your in lose your out..............its all just a money thing anyway....personally I think this poll is ridiculous!!!!

like i said i know it'll never happen, but i'd just like more importance placed on the regular season. give the conference winner an automatic birth like in the ivy league. too much money involved though like you said.

tournaments though are meaningless when teams are resting guys imo.

It's still, all about the money; sort-of like stupid bowl games in late December.

People love watching the games and the kids love playing them. Throw in the fact that it brings in major money and it's an easy decision.

since im in the minority on this, keep the conference tournaments, but all conference winners receive a automatic bid. like big ten said, it's sad that weber who went 15-1 in there conference and won the regular season title is excluded from the dance. get the 32 from conference regular season champions, then 32 from conference tournament winners and at larges.

i just want more emphasis on the regular season title.

Back in the day, it meant something to win a tourney. David Thompson and Phil Ford duels were for a bid to the Big Dance. 16 teams meant you better win your tournament

I was drinkin Boones Farm Country Qwencher watching real basketball. Len Elmore, Monty Towe, and Tommy Burleson went home if they didn't win.

Winning tournaments means nothing anymore unless you are Maryland or a bubble team. Roy Williams hates the freakin ACC Tournament. You could hear a damn pin drop in the Georgia Dome today....they were giving tickets away.

Exactly. Some teams care about the conf. tourneys, but not the best teams. The top teams for the most part couldn't care any less about them and just want to get it over with and move onto the actual tournament that matters. The fact that the conference tournament is THE ENTIRE SEASON for small schools is nothing but a joke. They might as well cancel the season for them as it means nothing anyways. Just have them play a big tournament and whoever gets lucky gets to call themselves the best, true or not.

It's nice for fans of teams like Syracuse, USC, Maryland etc. because they know they aren't doing anything in the tournament, but when you expect to be a final four team you just want to get those stupid conference tournaments over with.

If people actually think UCONN, Pitt, UNC, Oklahoma etc. gave anything close to 100% effort you're only kidding yourself. I'm not saying they came out and lost on purpose or anything, but they did not have anything close to the intensity and effort that the worse teams like Maryland, Syracuse, Ok St, Baylor etc had.

Nobody remembers conf tourney champs, people care about the big dance. Syracuse will be out in the Sweet 16 at the latest, so who cares that they won 3 games in the Big East tourney.
