Not a big surprise really...he likes to take a team loaded with talent that had a bad year the previous season so he looks like the reason the team is successful.

This team will make a move in the off season and they already have a great nucleus.

Too bad they are the 2nd best team in LA now though! :finger:

rumors of the Lakers trading the #10 pick and Caron Butler up to the #4 spot.

let Jumaine Jones and Luke Walton play SF.

Both Jones and Walton are a better fit...they don't require as many shots as Butler. Walton is a great passer as well.

Loaded with talent? I beg to differ. If Chris Mihm is your starting center, Lamar Odom your starting power forward, and Chucky Atkins your starting point guard, you are not loaded with talent. And they have virtually no financial flexibility to bring in anyone but a mediocre player in the offseason. The only wild card is their 1st round draft pick. Agree with you on the Clips though, as long as Livingston and Jaric stay healthy they should be in the playoffs next year.

That would be really, really dumb. Jumaine Jones and Luke Walton are both horrible. Especially Jumaine Jones.

You just said they are strapped financially and have the chance to get rid of a useless contract and move up 6 picks in the draft and that is dumb? :icon_conf

Jaric is a free agent and there is very little chance he will be back.

Caron Butler is one of the three worthwhile players that is on their roster, and he is still on his rookie contract. It's not that they can't afford to sign anyone, but they are well over the salary cap, mostly due to Brian Grant's contract. Trading Butler will not free up any money, and it will make them a worse team. I guess I just don't see the value in moving up six spots in the draft while getting rid of one of your better players.

My bad. I hope they pick up a solid backup point guard then, in case Livingston continues to have injury problems. There should be several on the market.

Why would Michael Jackson start coaching hoops, I guess he feels invincible after aquittal.

My honest opinion, the Zenmaster has always walked into sweet situations with championship rosters already in place. Cannot say that this time. In fact, I would think a roster overhaul is in order, a rebuilding project no matter what. This table is not set. Factor in one of the worst GM's besides Zeke in NY with Kupcake and this is looking like mission impossible part 3. Then stuck with Doing it my way Kobe? He will last longer than class act Rudy T., but no more rings for Phil. Not in Lalaland. They could be 4th best team in California.

Best Wishes...OF:howdy:

Butler doesnt play well when he is the third option. He only put up decent numbers when Lamar and/or Kobe were out.

Luke does well in the Triangle Offense because he is a good passer.
Atkins will struggle because his shot selection is awful.
Brian Grant, Mihm and Vlade are all useless.

I don't think Butler fits in well at all with that team. He needs the ball too much and he won't get the kind of touches he needs with Bryant needing to dominate the ball. While he has a great contract, it is still $2 million they could use to sign the #4 pick if they traded up.

I agree about Grant...these contracts would cripple almost any team:

Brian Grant:
Next season - $13,233,000
Following season - $14,458,000
3 years from now - $15,570,000

Vlade Divac:
Next season - $4,900,000
Following season - $5,390,000

Those are good points Frog. Kobe might have the physical talent to be like Mike, and make all his team mates better around him like Mike. But he wont listen to a lot of what Phil says, unlike Mike.

Phil knows how to win, but if you watch these two on courtside you get the impression Jackson is talking to a brick wall half the time.

This would be a bad move by Phil. I'm not sure how well the fans would recieve it either, after that book he wrote.

If they had someone other than Luke Walton or Jumaine Jones, I would say go for it. But neither one of those guys can guard 85% of the small forwards in the league. The only way I would trade up to #4 while giving up Butler is if they have a power forward in mind at that spot, and they could move Odom back to small forward. Even then, you'd be asking a lot of a rookie to match up with the likes of Garnett, Duncan, etc. in his first year in the league. I didn't realize Divac was signed for another two years, what a joke...any chance he'll retire?

The fans will receive it just fine, from what I hear on talk radio. That is, until he shows that his supposed genius is unable to transform a mediocre roster into a title contender. Obviously Phil looked around, wanted no part of working for Isiah Thomas and his pathetic roster in New York, and chose the Lakers and the $10 million/year that I have heard will be his salary.

Remember what the lakers were doing with that roster before Phil got there? Nothing. Phil got Kobe to listen, he was younger and still listened. They bought into the triangle, executed the offense per his instructions and were unbeatable. However, it obviously went to Kobe's head, and he deviates from the triangle at will. The offense breaks down to a Kobe one on one drill, or a playground play. No wonder Shaq had enough. This clown is the most talented cancer I have seen, but a cancer. Teammates can't stand him. It all fell apart after the rape deal, but was falling apart before then. The GM's around the league nicknamed him Frank Sinatra, for doing it my way. Guy talks out both sides of his mouth always. Totally different mental makeup then Jordan. Kobe still thinks he can win a game by himself. Should be allowed to take all of the crunchtime shots. Mike won championships drawing defenses to himself, and passing to open man. It all bottom lines to teamwork. See Spurs.

Next Wishes...OF:howdy:

I agree...Jackson has never impressed me. He took Jordan in his prime with Scottie Pippen...then went to the Lakers with the 2 most dominant players in the game at the time on one team. The only credit I will give him is he works well with superstars.

With that being said, Kobe is still a phenominal talent (even though I hate him more than anyone in the league). They will always be within 1 player of being a championship contender. I don't think this team is far off and they will make a move (and be healthier) before next season.

I was surprised Jackson didn't take a more serious look at Cleveland.
