Judge Orders Release of Abu Ghraib Photos

By LARRY NEUMEISTER, Associated Press Writer
8 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Saying the United States "does not surrender to blackmail," a judge ruled Thursday that pictures of detainee abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison must be released over government claims that they could damage America's image.

< snip >

The judge said: "Our nation does not surrender to blackmail, and fear of blackmail is not a legally sufficient argument to prevent us from performing a statutory command. Indeed, the freedoms that we champion are as important to our success in Iraq and Afghanistan as the guns and missiles with which our troops are armed."

You have to be kidding, blaming Clinton for Bushs despicable policy of degrading, torturing, murdering and sodomizing innocents.
You are a real piece of work.
Another nail in the coffin for you losers when these come out.

So anything that hurts our image should first be screened or withheld from the public? I am just trying to get to the core of what you're upset about.

First off, seems to me that these videos/photos are not in the public domain.

Second...if they have already been out there - how will - re-releasing them cause any more ill will towards our soldiers?

Third, maybe videotaping rape just isn't as good of any idea as originally thought.

Let us look at this way. If the USA were on trial for Abu Ghraib in the eyes of the world then how much inflamtory evidence (pics) are the jurors allowed to see? In real courtrooms the inflamtory evidence is kept to a min. just enough to prove the prosecutions charge. In fact, cases have been appealed when the jury were inundated with inflamtory evidence.

RW, I believe your anger is displaced here. Be angry at those who committed the acts. I don't think hiding the truth ever accomplished anything positive. Our country is strong enough to face the reality of this, and persevere.

The arguement against releasing the was "that it would tarnish America's image" WTF kind of case is that???? The fact these things occured already should have tarnished our image.

Do you really think (or whatever passes for thinking with you) that news of what Americans have done to Iraqis has not been communicated to the population by now. It is quite possible that Americans are the only ones ignorant of the atrocities thanks to government censorship. We have a right to know what crimes are being committed in our name.

What good comes out of it other than the Anti Bush people saying "see his policies and treatments of prisoners are what we thought" but hey the ACLU is happy so I'm sure the liberals are too just more murdered soldiers when the pics are released.

RW, only the fact, I'm not sure most Americans are aware of exactly what took place. I for one have no desire to see any such images, but if it prevents us from doing, what we should stand against, I am for it.

we can talk about the rights of everyone to see this stuff but, doesnt the fact that it will likely result in more dead americans outweigh all that? i dont condone what was done to those prisoners by any means but, aint it just gonna cause more bloodshed?

why?

well if America hasn't seen the 53 days in a row posted on the cover of the NY Times, also every media outlets ran the story but some refused to show the pics etc. Hey I thought what they did was dispictible and those who participated will hopefully be brought to justice but for this radical left Judge to release more pics???? Even the mainstream moderate left is up in arms over this!

Well Bush Admin will look even worse than they do now and that's the only reason why these pics will surface.

Here we go...much to the delight of the Left, America's image is about to take another hit around the world.

So the logic of the Left can be summed up like this:

- It was a bad idea to go to war in Iraq because it will anger the extremists

- It's a good idea to release these photos, despite the fact that it will anger the extremists (and a hell of a lot more than that)

And Jinn, if you truly believe that W personally ordered the troops to commit those acts, then you're a bigger jackass than I could have imagined.

Whats to be gained by releasing these, boys?

Blue are you assuming those that hate us will hate us more? Do you think that the people that want us dead don't already know of this. Or haven't had these stories told and embellished for more than a year now. How could it make things worse?
I'll tell you how it will illustrate to the religious right how corrupt the good guys have become. And who is the head good guy, why 'ol John Wayne Dubya that's who and you guys know it. Your ship of fools is sinking this is just another broadside.
