The Johnny Manziel spiral is more a life-and-death matter than a laughing matter, and the clock is ticking on if he can get help.
That’s the message his father reiterated, according to ESPN. Paul Manziel again tried to reach his son through the media in a desperate plea to not resurrect the career of a once-promising unique talent, but to save the life of a 23-year-old with a drug problem that he won’t acknowledge.
“He’s a druggie. It’s not a secret that he’s a druggie,” the elder Manziel told ESPN’s Josina Anderson. “I don’t know what to say other than my son is a druggie and he needs help. He just hasn’t seeked it yet. Hopefully he doesn’t die before he comes to his senses. That’s about all you can say. I don’t know what else to say.”
Paul Manziel added a devastating comment, indicating how he is rooting for Johnny’s domestic violence case against an ex-girlfriend to unfold.
“I hate to say it but I hope he goes to jail,” Paul Manziel said. “I mean, that would be the best place for him. So we’ll see.”
The free-agent quarterback is trying to avoid a sentence by seeking a plea deal, according to a misdirected text from his lawyer Bob Hinton to the AP. Hinton indicated similar drug concerns for the Heisman Trophy winner who flamed out with the Browns amid a dizzying array of off-the-field issues.
“Heaven help us if one of the conditions is to pee in a bottle,” the attorney wrote about a potential deal to lessen charges stemming from an alleged attack on Colleen Crowley.

Hinton, in his mistaken text, stated he was given a receipt that shows Manziel may have spent more than $1,000 at a drug paraphernalia store 15 hours after he was involved in a hit-and-run crash Monday night.
This isn’t the first time Paul Manziel has gone public with his fears over his son’s health. In February, the concerned parent used The Dallas Morning News as his medium to beg his son to get help.
“I truly believe if they can’t get him help, he won’t live to see his 24th birthday,” he said.
