Isn't it all over when he gets his guaranteed money? It's not a matter of how much, it's just whether he gets the full guarantee up front and the chargers want to give half now and half after first year?

Joey Bosa's mom on her son's holdout with Chargers: 'Wish we pulled an Eli Manning'.

It appears the stalemate between the San Diego Chargers and No. 3-overall pick Joey Bosa is getting uglier by the day. The two sides haven't talked since exchanging contract proposals July 28, according to Pro Football Talk.

Now it looks like Bosa's mom might have added some fuel to the fire. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, a source authenticated a Facebook comment left by Cheryl Bosa about her son's ongoing dispute with the team.

"It bums me out for him so much," she wrote to a friend. "Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day."
For those who don't remember, Eli Manning was originally drafted by the Chargers with the first-overall pick in the 2004 draft. But Manning's father -- former Saints QB Archie -- had told the club that his son had no desire to sign with San Diego. The Chargers traded Eli Manning to the Giants for a package that included No. 4 pick Philip Rivers.

Bosa's holdout, which is the longest since the 2011 labor deal that simplified the process of signing rookies, stems from offset language in his fully guaranteed deal. The Chargers want to defer a sizeable amount of his signing bonus to 2017 while he seeks either no offset language of the bonus to be paid in full in 2016.

I believe it's over offset language, which is pretty ridiculous for a player taken this high. Bosa wants to be able to collect money from a new team and the Chargers if he were to be released before the end of his rookie contract while the Chargers want to offset earnings from a new team against what they owe him under the initial four year deal.

What are the odds he would be released in his first four seasons? This offset discussion is typically more common with later picks due to the much higher probability of being released during their rookie deals.

I heard one day last week though that the money being discussed is guaranteed money, if they cut him the day after he is signed it is still owed. Which too me sounds like Bosa wants to be earning the interest day one and not let the chargers make interest on that money for 365 days. I could be wrong though.

Either way, for both sides to not talk for the weeks leading up to preseason means this will end bad. He will come in and be behind and how often do we see these situations play out with injury?

Bosa will cave. He was lucky to be picked #3. A guy picked at #3 who is worried about being cut and offset language???

The Chargers announce rookie Joey Bosa, ending contract stalemate, signing a four-year deal. Bosa is at Chargers Park and will practice on Tuesday. "We look forward to having Joey join us and getting him prepared as quickly as possible for the 2016 season," said general manager Tom Telesco in a prepared statement.
