On Thursday, conservatives will be descending on Washington DC, the place they like to slam the most, to galvanize their mission to take back Congress and the presidency. Reports say this year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) will bring in record numbers despite it not being a midterm or presidential election year. According to The Washington Times, 7,000 people attended last year and 9,000 are expected this year.
Last year President Bush and Cheney were the stars of the event. And Mitt Romney chose the conference to announce that he was suspending his campaign.
This year, Cheney and Bush are off the agenda, replaced by ghosts of the campaign trail like Joe the Plumber (Joe Wurzelbacher) and documentarian John Ziegler, who has been making the rounds to restore Sarah Palin's self-imposed media debacle with his documentary "Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted." And of course Rush Limbaugh will be there as the biggest draw.
Other events include: "Al Franken and ACORN: How Liberals are Destroying the American Election System"; "The Presidential Banquet with Master of Ceremonies: Rep. Michelle Bachmann"; "Bailing Out Big Business: Are We All Socialists Now?"; A book signing with Ann Coulter; "Media in the Obama Era: Is Journalism Dead?"; "The True Cost Of Global Warming Hysteria"; and "Will Congress Take Your Guns?"
HuffPost will have more reports on the convention. So check back!

Palin, Joey P, Jindal, RNC Chair Michael Steele and his new "Hip Hop Republican" schtick?

I pray they keep this up for 4 more years.

4 more? it'll be 8-12 more ... other than Ron Paul there is not one person in "my" party that shares any of my beliefs. Funny the left cannot see how "left" this current republican party is. These guys are just like you folks (other than the religious stuff) but that little "R" next to their name precludes you from understanding that.

at least it gives me something to laugh about when i visit this board each day

How can this party possibly expect to attract anyone who is not old, wealthy, and white when they continue to embrace hatemongers like Coulter and Bachmann? Do they not see what a fucking joke they are? They have no chance in future national elections. Though I lean left, that's not necessarily a good thing. I hate seeing unchecked Dems in power as much as I do Repubs.

Exactly...in Canada we've had Minority Governments for the past few elections and it works fairly well. No one party can dominate legislation. The Conservative party which the Prime Minister represents only received 34% of the vote, they can not push a fully right wing platform or they will be removed from office.

So generally it will keep things in the middle, good business policy while maintaining smart social policy.

of course I could have written the exact same thing 6 years ago about how can Dems back fools like Reid, Pelosi, Garaofolo (sp?), Gore, and Michael Moore...and who's completely in power now? :)

it's all very cyclical and I agree they have no chance in near-future elections, but things can change quickly 4+ years from now. Unfortunately there is nobody that I could stand behind, besides Ron Paul, and give my full support. I like(d) Giuliani but his extra-curricular activities and pro-abortion stance would never fly with the religious right. And Paul is not a smooth enough speaker to galvanize the group so I definitely see a massive void in the neo-con led GOP right now.

There is nobody on the left (or right for that matter) that could win a debate on issues with Ron Paul, but if he ever got to a high position in a campaign the left and the media would torch him for his awkwardness...just like that tool Hannity did for all of 2008. That would spell the end to him as a presidential candidate, like it did to Goldwater 35 years ago. The worst thing you can do as a politician is quote the Constitution and tell the truth...
