however it still doesn't change what was said about spreading the wealth...

And the winner of the final presidential debate was … Joe the Plumber.

The suddenly famous Joe the Plumber, whose real name is Sam Joe Wurzelbacher, was invoked 23 times by John McCain and Barack Obama as they battled for the hearts and minds of voters during Wednesday night's debate.
"It floored me. It's not something I expected ever," Wurzelbacher said in an exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America." "My son is digging it. It's kind of neat."
Wurzelbacher has become the focal point of the presidential election because of his objections to Obama's plan to boost taxes on people who earn more than $250,000. Ironically, the plumber currently has an income level that would make him eligible for Obama's proposed tax cut rather than the tax increase.

Wurzelbacher said he didn't give any interviews before Wednesday's debate because he was busy fixing a water main break at a gas station and "I was muddy and soaking wet."
Wurzelbacher said he had a couple of plumbing jobs scheduled for today and hoped he would get more calls before the day was out.
He will need the money. Wurzelbacher's new notoriety has brought to light the fact that he owes nearly $1,200 in unpaid taxes.

"There is a judgment lien against him for nonpayment of income tax," Barb Losie, deputy clerk of the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, told ABCNews.com. "The state files hundreds of liens a day. It means he owes that money."
Losie said Wurzelbacher owes $1,182 from January 2007, but no action has been taken against him outside of filing the lien.
"There is no judge pulled, there is no attorney assigned... There is a 99 percent chance he doesn't know about the lien, unless he did a credit report or was ready to pay his taxes," Losie said.
A second lien has been filed in the courhouse against Wurzelbacher for $1,261 that he apparently owes St. Charles Mercy Hospital. That lien was filed in March 2007.

AND DOES NOT HAVE A PLUMBING LICENSE...
http://obsprimary.blogspot.com/2008/10/joe-plumber-update.html

Because we're sure you want to know: Joe the Plumber does not have a plumbing license, has no concrete plans to own a business, and might have to vote provisionally in the Ohio election.

Joe Wurzelbacher, whose story John McCain used last night to poke at Barack Obama's tax plan, is learning today what most sudden celebrities do - that the second 15 minutes of fame aren't nearly as much fun as the first.

Wurzelbacher is the Toledo man Barack Obama spoke to this week while making a surprise door-to-door canvass of an Ohio neighborhood. Wurzelbacher told Obama - and later reporters - that Obama's tax plan might be an obstacle to him buying a plumbing business.

McCain pounced on the moment to illustrate the victims of Obama taxing citizens and businesses that make more than $250,000. Obama made his own appeal to Joe. Katie Couric called. Suddenly, Joe was political and media gold.

Today, however, Wurzelbacher told a swarm of reporters that the whole owning a business thing was a little premature. He and the owner of the plumbing business where he works have talked about him taking it over at some point. "There's a lot I've got to learn," he said.

The Toledo Blade is reporting that Wurzelbacher does not have a plumbing license, and that according to Ohio building regulations, he must maintain his own license to do plumbing work. He is also not registered to operate as a plumber in Ohio, which means he’s not, technically, Joe the Plumber.

Wurzelbacher also might have a small issue with his voter registration, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Because of a discrepancy in the spelling of his name on voter records, he might have to vote provisionally this election. Wurzelbacher apparently did vote in the Ohio primary this year as a registered Republican, the Plain Dealer reports. He was a member of the Natural Law Party in previous elections.

The moral here is not that Joe is a bad guy. It's not that McCain's larger points about taxes are necessarily invalid. It's that we should be cautious with any political narrative we hear.

McCain, by the way, told Fox News that he might be giving Wurzelbacher a call. "I think we're going to be spending some time together," McCain said.

With satellite trucks surrounding his house and bloggers poking into public records and more, Wurzelbacher might not take him up on the offer. Would you?

You know, I actually feel bad for the guy. He didn't realize he was opening a can of worms like this.

Hope he can find a way out of the press camping out on his lawn. They'll start looking into his past (like they already have) and it sucks for him. He didn't ask for it either. Hey so what about his financial issues. Everyone has them.

Hopefully his business will pick up. Put "Joe The Plumber" on the side of his truck!

i just find it ironic he was asking about taxes and come to find out it really doesn't matter to him as he evidently don't pay now...

Seriously right?? Barack happened to be in his neighborhood so he wanted to here the solutions from the horses mouth. So what? I mean...unfortuntely he over spoke saying he makes more than $250k but man, its a shame the press has to be so fucking relentless. He didn't ask for it.

Wish there was a third watchdog who investigated all of the people reporting. Everyone from the National Enquirer and TMZ should be tops on the list to have their lives turned upside down.

I knew from watching the footage of him talking to Barack this morning on the Today show, that he is some jackass wannabe republican. Who never had any intentions of giving Obama a chance to resonate.

Just when you didn't think things could get worse for John McCain -- they go in the toilet.

Literally.

So, you remember Joe the Plumber, who John McCain kept relentlessly bringing up. And up. The apparently undecided plumber who had complained to Barack Obama that he couldn't buy his own plumbing company because he'd have to pay 3% more in taxes. The plumber who John McCain lauded as an Everyman while oddly proclaiming "Congratulations! You're rich!" in the midst of a disastrous recession. The fellow who said that Barack Obama "tap dances better than Sammy Davis Jr."

That guy.

Well, it turns out he's the one gliding around the dance floor so much, you should expect to see him soon on "Dancing with the Stars."

You see, Joe Wurzelbacher is apparently related to Robert Wurzelbacher. Who is the son-in-law of (are you ready...?) Charles Keating!

Yes, that Charles Keating. The Charles Keating of the Keating 5 Scandal. For which John McCain was reprimanded by the United States Senate, for his involvement in attempting to illegally influence government regulators. The Charles Keating who John McCain has been trying to avoid have mentioned. So, he basically mentioned it 24 times.

Buster, it would have made a difference if the person asking the questions was more open minded.

For this guy who doesnt even have a plumbing license to pose as a plumber and give Obama a hard time for 5 minutes (at least that is how long they said it was) is some real blow hard non sense. I know Obama was probably spending most of the time trying to explain that anyone making 250k or less will see a nice tax break and there will be middle class reliefs.

Let me be clear, I have no problem with right wingers and republicans and those that actually believe in the philosophy of such. But you could see it from a mile away this guy was just being a jerk.
