Not just in today's game, but he has been very good in many of the tournament games. Looking at his numbers in the OHL, he seems to have really stepped up his game for this tournament. Meanwhile, McCollum has looked terrible throughout the entire tournament. I can't think of a single game where he has played well. You would never know he was a 1st round pick of the Detroit Red Wings.

What makes you think i took offense to that?

The Wings traditionally have very low 1st round picks and their history is that they are very good and finding gems in the later rounds. I just wondered what you meant by saying that. Didn't make much sense to me.

In fact the Wings rarely have draft picks playing in these tournaments. At least for Canada and the US teams.

I think that's a bit of a misconception, considering that since they drafted Zetterberg in the 7th round, their gems have come from their highest drafted players.

Pavel Datsyuk round 6 #171 overall

Henrik Zetterberg round 7 #210 overall

Nick Lidstrom round 3 #53 overall

Thomas Holmstrom round 10 #257 overall

Chris Osgood round 3 #54 overall

Johan Franzen round 3 #97 overall

Sergei federov round 4 #74 overall

Vyacheslav Kozlov round 3 #45 overall

Only 1 1st round pick has touched the ice since 98' [Nik Kronwall 2000] before Jiri Fischer did in 98' and his career was cut short by heart disease.

Only one of those players (Franzen) was drafted after Zetterberg (1999). Furthermore, he was Detroit's first pick that year, and a 3rd round pick isn't exactly a later round gem. There are plenty of teams who have accomplished more in the later rounds since 1999. Furthermore, the list of teams who have found late round Russian gems pre-1999 are numerous.
