Anyone watch the 2 hour movie event tonight? The show in my opinion has gotten better in the later seasons, great plots without going completely over the top like they did in Lost.

People I work with love it, so I rented the first few Episodes from Season 1 last year and watched them.

It was ok, but didnt do much for me. I'm a Kiefer Sutherland fan too.

Never rented the rest of them.

May not be for everyone, but the first part of season 1 is not like the rest. It gets very intense.

Exactly. First season was great - then they just repeated the same formula and shuffled characters around.

Seems that way. Like the first few seasons of stuff is just amazing and then they run out of things to write about that center around premise of the show.

Heros season 1, Prison break 1 & 2 come to mind. Stuff after that became trash in their respective series' (IMO). Even reality shows like 'survivor'. Nothing has even come close to the fanfare of season one.

The 'you have to watch everything in sequence' format is pretty compelling and great to watch when done right (see Dexter, like we talked about before), but it can get old quick when it's the same cast, producing, etc. over and over.

Sopranos seems to be the only one that has pulled it off, you can watch any episode standing alone by itself and enjoy it. Just that much better in order.

Stuff like CSI, Cold Case and Law & Order are all successful long running series that are very well produced with lots of money dumped into them but each episode is meant as a stand alone. No episode to episode soap operas.

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

Would you rather have them use a different formula, start having terrorists with magical powers and shit, Jack traveling back in time in the Delorean, etc?

Some of the later seasons have been my favorite, 4 and 6 if I had to say...but love em all. Great show.

Most overrated drama series ever. The amount of reality one must suspend to believe even a fraction of the plot is insurmountable.

The show is a soap opera with explosions thrown in to attract some males. Unlike daytime soaps, this one substitutes fear and panic for sex. But like 99% of tv programs, the primary target is the female audience.

I'd rather have a show end when it has run out of steam, instead of milking the formula. It has become the norm in mainstream US shows, so it's not a knock on 24 specifically.

I can understand that people still watch 24, but it has gone from an innovative action/political series to a generic cat-and-mouse thriller (mind you, maybe it's changed - I stopped watching after the first few episodes of Season 5).

I loved the President and First Lady in Season 4 - the actors were brilliant. The rest was recycled crap.

Exactly my sentiment.

FWIW to add to Funks list, The Wire was a great example of how to do it right by a continuing story arc.

24 started to really recycling itself after killing David Palmer.

PS NO TV moment in history was ever as shocking as Nina killing Jacks wife in season one.

That goes up there as the best twist endings along with films like Usual Suspects and Fight Club

24

Season 1 - groundbreaking
Season 4 - best ever

Rest of season's - better than 99% of all TV

Good to have 24 back. Here on the west coast 4th quarter of Colt game on at the same time. Naturally I switched to 24. What a long wait.

at times during the past 6 years , their wasnt too much on tv that could touch 24 ..

some other times , they kinda jumped the shark ..

some great story lines , and some weak ones.

Most people agreed season 5 was the worst of the bunch, and seasons 1 and 4 were the best. Season 4 was ridiculously good. They redeemed themselves with season 6 a bit and I think Keifer has said season 7 may be the last so I'd expect some big twists and finale type stuff.

But of course, if it does super well the big wigs at FOX will keep bringing it back until it's completely driven into the ground.

It is recycled but I still like it. With Paris Hilton BFF, The Hills, Real World and Bret Michaels dating shows leading the way, I'll stick to 24, Lost and CSI.
