Susan Lenfestey: Some in black tie; others, body bags

As the families of bomb-flattened Fallujah huddle in make-shift refugee camps, drinking from sewage-filled streams, Iraqi policy mastermind Paul Wolfowitz fastens the last stud into his starched collar.

As the Iraq Survey Group ends its search for WMD, concluding that there was no imminent mushroom cloud or even a smoking gun, Condi Rice draws herself a hot bath.

As Sgt. Kevin Benderman, an Army mechanic with nine years of service, refuses a second deployment to Iraq, saying, "You just don't know how bad it is," Colin Powell pours himself a drink.

As Specialist Charles A. Graner, miscreant and major-domo of Abu Ghraib, shuffles off to prison, Donald Rumsfeld straightens the black tie of his tux.

As the 9/11 widow tucks her children into bed, wondering why the recommendations made in "The 9/11 Commission Report" weren't implemented, Tom Ridge tightens his cummerbund.

As prisoners charged with no crimes, and given no recourse, languish in the hellhole of Guantanamo Bay, torture apologist Alberto Gonzales clicks his cufflinks into place.

As Dan Rather retires in disgrace over forged documents, former CIA Director George Tenet, proponent of forged documents about Iraq's nonexistent nuclear program, adjusts the Medal of Freedom around his neck.

As the working mother in Chicago wonders how to keep her child from being left behind now that her special-ed program has been cut, Armstrong Williams polishes his shoes.

As Valerie Plame walks away from a distinguished career as a CIA "operative," destroyed when her identity was revealed by columnist Robert Novak, Mr. Novak walks to his limo.

As Osama bin Laden chuckles in his cave to see America's fortunes sink in the morass of Iraq and as fresh recruits to his cause multiply like flies, Dick Cheney pops the cork on a bottle of Dom Perignon.

As America's trade gap surges and the red ink in the national debt bleeds to a record level, Treasury Secretary Paul Snow finishes shaving and dabs at a spot of blood on his chin.

As the Republican Congress gets ready to underfund everything from Head Start to veterans' benefits, Speaker Dennis Hastert checks his profile in the mirror.

As Pfc. Francis Obaji, oldest son of an immigrant Nigerian family, is zipped into a body bag for the sad journey home, Laura Bush zips up her Oscar de la Renta gown.

And as his corporate pals slide their millions across the table to dance at his ball, forgetting for a moment the bottom line that forces them to ship jobs overseas, George W. Bush pulls on his snakeskin boots.

Bush lied and over 1300 American troops killed ... over 10,000 injured and over 100,000 innocent Iraqis killed at a cost of over 300 billion American dollars

We would all be so lucky to be back to the days when Oral Sex was the big topic regarding Politics

Redneckman...LMAO!

Doc, so if there had been WMD's found then it wouldn't have been a "lie" and all the death would somehow be ok or better? Troops would have still been killed and if Kerry had been elected he would have had a black tie dinner for his inauguration I'm sure. Bush made a decision based on flawed intelligence from the CIA. If I was President and my country had been hit like we were on 9/11 and I knew there was a Muslim dictator in the middle east who had used WMD in the past and was refusing to let inspectors stay, defying UN resolutions and he could possibly pass the WMD along to terrorists who could use it against us on our soil...I would have to AT LEAST consider taking him out. Hindsight is 20/20, but when you are President you have to make tough decisions that are possibly going to cost lives one way or another. The bigger mess is the miscalculation on how the war would go and how we underestimated Sunni/Insurgent resistance.

Or Bush could have actually attacked the people who had funded and organized the 9/11 attack, his pals the Bin Laden family and the other Saudis. If Russia
bombs us would you advocate bombing Belgium? This would make as much sense as Bush's disastrous and foolish policy of attacking Iraq which had been decided on long before 9/11 and was simply the completion of a Bush Family Vendetta against Iraq in true Bush style as it was done with other people's blood(American military) and other people's money(American tax-payer).

"Bush made a decision based on flawed intelligence from the CIA" .... really? and Tenet was given a Medal by Bush for that effort???

Bush screwed up ... Ike wrote a letter taking full responsibility if D-Day screwed ... Bush flew his phony ass onto a Carrier and pronounced "Mission Accomplished" and the White House later tried to deny they made up that sign??

Ike was a great man ... Ike was a great Commander-in-Chief ... Bush falls short in both categories

By the way ... the WMD's??? Supplied by the Reagan / Bush administration and this country had no problems encouraging him to use those against Iran ...

Again, Bush loves to grab the headlines for "victories" ... time for the Bushies to put blame where it belongs for this Iraq failure

Volitan, good post, but under Doc's rules here, common sense doesn't matter. It's whatever it takes to further Doc's left wing wacked out socialist nut job agenda.

Bush thanks his lucky stars everyday that 9-11 happened. It got him re-elected.

no proof of that Hilo. But, it is a fact that Clinton was upset that 9/11 didn't happen on his watch, woulda solidified his legacy, i guess. His big chance to go out a hero.

bulldog77, you sir have obviously watched Farceinheit 9/11 one too many times...remember Michael Moore said, "There is no terrorist threat....there is no terrorist threat." I wonder if Mr. Moore would volunteer to get in a time machine and go back and stand on top of the twin towers on the morning of 9/11 or stand at the wall where the Pentagon was hit. Maybe he would have enjoyed a cockpit view with Mohamed Atta???
Al-Queda funded the attack and yes some were Saudis, but they trained in Afghanistan with Bin Laden's funding and it was not an attack by the Saudi military for God's sake. So if Checneyan terrorists attacked the U.S....no we would not bomb Moscow or Belgium to reference your analogy. Remember how we attacked the Taliban/AQ long before the Iraq war...
Doc...I have a post for you later.

In August of 2001, Bush had decided to attack Afghanistan over the UNIOCAL pipeline stiff job by the Taliban ...

Get real if you think we are in Iraq to "free the Iraqis" ... GOD, ARE ALL AMERICANS THAT HONOR BUSH STUPID???
