How many can relate to that?

Many more than care to admit I guess.

Greed will cause you misery most of the time in this game we call wagering.

Yep, handicapping is critical, but without solid money management and iron discipline, it is difficult to profit in the long run.

I have said this many many times..its not picking more winners than losers that gets most of us...Its dealing with a 2-3 day skid, and still betting the same amount...

Three years ago I won in baseball all summer from March Madness til late August, always betting a safe conservative amount ( some say to step up your plays then , I never have done this)

I had a two week dry spell and gave it all back! It took me two years to get that money back, I learned a valuable lesson, and have protected profits ever since...Its so hard to play everyday and not fall into that trap....it takes time and experience and probably having experienced what happened to me 3 seasons ago...

I don't think many people are cut out for gambling daily , greed is the main reason...Unless of course your betting very very small amounts for recreation...

6 months of winning can be gone in 14 days and it will make you sick for a long ime...

I can relate. On the other hand, I do feel that it is important, once you become a winner, to increase your bet size in a methodical way as your bankroll increases, maybe once a month or once a quarter. Whatever is comfortable for the particular bettor.

For example, if your bet size is 2% of your bankroll, and you want to adjust your bet size every quarter, then once every 3 months divide your bankroll by 50 to get your new bet size.

if i had the kind of discipline needed to never chase or get greedy, i'd have wash-board abs, the house would be clean and would've been promoted at work.

I agree with that fathead..if you're an everyday player...

I am more of a streak player...my insides and stress level can't take the daily grind, because I must watch every pitch....one of my more difficult moments was in game 3 of the WS, I needed a scoreless 9th inning from St Louis and I would have won 4.2 dimes , well Larry Walker on an 0-2 pitch changed all that for me with his homerun to centerfield...I don't gamble everyday for this reason...too many highs and lows, I find its better to take a break ..taking a break is also a good way to keep the money in perspective, not do something foolish like doubling and tripling down etc...

TiVo'ed "Tilt" this week, very first scene reminded me so much of JJ-Cubic Zirconium.

Guy come up to the table, say "there's no such thing as a professional poker player" and things like "those guys on TV, I can tell they are bluffing."

Needless to say, he gets his clock cleaned with second best hand.

It was like a biopic of JJ.:hump:

I have the same problem, the stress level was giving me ulcers, or at least it felt like it. I found an easy solution that works for me. I don't watch any of the events that I bet on. I place my bets early and then that night I check the results and see how my bets did that day. I try not to even think about my wagers during the day. My life has been much less stressful since. It also makes you more objective and less prone to make a bet not in your handicapping plan.

If you are a big sports fan, then not watching the game may not work for you. But if this is your business and you treat it as such, not watching the games or races helps quite a bit with the stress and discipline.
