We often talk on these threads how if a player plays into a posted but bad number that it is like stealing... In fact many are passionate about it & would call you scum if you did such a thing. Most here always preach Honesty is the Best Policy. I also Beleive this Theory.

POLL QUESTION: ARE BOOKS STEALING WHEN THEY TRY SUCH TACTICS:

look at the odds presented bellow from two books on the Mike Tyson Odds.... The second Book is obviously not interested in taking wagers on this fight so are posting ridiculous odds on Tyson. Of course I know all of you will cry BUYER BEWARE so we all know that is true... TO A DEGREE...

What about the recreational bettor that only has one account & will not shop the line. That player may bery well lay the -2000. IMHO this is UNETHICAL... It is in Essence STEALING from those who do not know any better.

The Only way this Could be deemed Ethical IMO is if a Book who Posted A Bad Line Swallows the Action they get from those who bet it.

How Can Books expect to have it both ways...

What do you think?

17 Mike Tyson -850 Risk To Win
18 Danny Williams +770 Risk To Win

Add Mike Tyson -2000 Bet
Add Danny Williams +700

I see little problem with the first set of numbers....

However, if the second set offers Tyson at -2000 then to be fair at least raise the takeback on Williams to a reasonable percentage.....when is the difference between the favorite and the dog this huge???

marco, my point is that the second book obviously doesnt want any action on TYSON, however they will put out these exagerated odds to try to 'trap' unsuspecting bettors who dont think twice to shop...

Kind of like if you are in a different country & dont know how much something should cost like a cab or something so the cab driver rips you off...

This is what the bookmaker is doing here... ripping off unsuspecting gamblers who play into their ridiculous odds...

Now god forbid someone is a little sharp like OF was today with WWTS & that bet he made on SHAQ... Or if by mistake they post a bad line & a sharp observer catches it... Then the Sharpie's bet is cancelled & they are labelled a cheat?

SS - I can see your point on this one because it is a legitimate sporting event, by that I mean they have to actually fight to get a result. On the other hand joke lines like "Will Britney Spears have triplets?" for example - I have no sympathy for anyone dumb enough to bet that type of prop. So my answer to you is: in the Tyson case the book hanging the lop-sided line while imo not exactly stealing, is certainly guilty of being unethical.

The pitfalls of living in a capatalistic society involve risks such as sporssavant described above.

A "fool" is a person who is always joking and doing stupid things. "A fool and his money are easily parted" means that it is easy for a foolish person to lose his money. In this idiom it is "a" fool and "his" money that are easily parted. Example: "How is it that you left home with 20 dollars but you come home with nothing? A fool and his money are easily parted!" If you spend money carelessly and are cheated easily then you are a fool. "A fool and his money are easily parted" says that a foolish person ("a fool") is easily separated ("parted") from his money. Example: "Her husband can't seem to hold onto any amount of money; he either spends it or loses it. A fool and his money are easily parted."

SS.....I understand your point about the rediculous line and screwing someone who bets it without shopping around....this is a good example of the need to shop around.....had a line this far outta whack been in favor of the bettor it would have been rejected as an error line, and all bets on such line voided....

It would seem that a sportsbook having lines like this is asking for the bettor to take his business elsewhere, because obviously this moneyline gives no advantage to the bettor because not only is Tyson way overpriced but the takeback on the dog is also reduced...

Kinda like the people who claim that thier online sportsbook moves the number against them at the confirmation page.....

If this book has no advantages to being there, and doesn't apply any industry standards when they offer lines, then let them sit in the dust....some places offer better lines on dogs or deal a ten cent line instead of a twenty...they're asking for your business....

marco... exactly...

if the player played into such a riduculous line in their favor the book would simply cancel the play saying mistaken line...

Can the player cancel their bet saying that the book made a mistaken line?
