The cleanup would be to restore a representative democracy which has been completely highjacked by Maduro (and Chavez before him). When Venezuela was a free, open capitalist society, welcoming international companies to operate in a sensible way, they were the richest country in So America because of their natural resource endowment. Since they moved to socialism they have imploded.
I think that Trump looks at all the Central and South American countries as neighbors. They, along with Canada, are basically all a part of the same land mass. Turmoil to our south has come to mean a new flow of immigrants to the good old USA. It is unsustainable for us to absorb all the people from Central ans South America. Better that they be independent, healthy and happy nations. That should be the interest of any US President.

Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world. Over 300 billion barrels. #1. The US (or France or Germany or any other of those other countries) does not give 3 fucks about Venezuelans or Venezuela.
