Is Detroit still as bad as ever?

They will be better defensively (although couldn't be worse than last season).. Signing Foote and trading for Peterson sets up a pretty nice LB corps along with Simms for that 3-4 that Schwartz is gonna try to implement...

Secondary still a diseaster although they did draft the highest rated Safety with the first pick in the 2nd round who has looked good... Defensive line is very poor, offensive line mediocre at best. Can't see them being able to run the ball against very many teams.

+13 I couldn't imagine laying against anyone in the NFL, but with an explosive offense like the Saints I can't back the Lions here either... Best play for this game in my opinion is the OVER 48 1/2. Saints should score at least 30+ points in this one for sure and as long as Culpepper stays off his back Detroit should be able to move the ball through the air especially with Megatron on the field.

OL and DL is still horrible. Hard to fade Detroit however until they break the streak.

No , they are now the second worst team in football behind The Raiders.

No matter how bad they were, they were still 7-9 against the spread

I'm actually thinking under 49. New Orleans had fewer than 30 pass attempts only once last year. If there was ever a spot where they could go up 14 and spend the entire second half running, this would be the game -- so long as Reggie Bush isn't the featured back (are they still planning to give most of the carries to someone else this year?)

this game could set up to be the perfect storm.
nobody's as bad as the lions have been...
new orleans looks unstoppable in "preseason"...
new orleans pasted detroit 42-7 ly in detroit...

i don't think there will be a time this year where detroit gets this many points again.
it would'nt shock me to see new orleans "just win", expect the unexpected in the nfl...especially week 1.
it's seems too easy to expect a blow-out.

GAME.

Stafford is starting, and this O is improved. I think they be playing catch up the whole game, but they should keep firing away on the Saints D.

I see no issues with the Saints getting their points, even if they are way up they will still get points b/c this D line is so poor. I don't really think they'll be able to do that b/c the Lions should keep them at least somewhat in the game offensively. I like the Over, but not a play yet.

I'm looking for the Lions to be my big time winner ATS for most of the year. Matchups for the Lions are decent. Megatron is a beast, Stafford arm is worth the few mistakes he will make, and Kevin Smith is not bad at all. The O-line is about the same but is switching to a new blocking scheme which can only get better from last year (can't get worse). TE Pettigrew will be a major safety valve for the rookie QB. Their roster was turned over 50% including new defensive minded HC, new OC, and new GM. Eight defensive starters are new to Lions (2 rookies) with Peterson and Foote adding some new veterans. The Lions are a new team, I expect their play to be much different, doesn't mean they will win but will be different.

Lions = 5 wins & 10 wins ATS

Detroit +13 is the play of the year IMO.

Double digit dogs in week 1 are historically phenomenal bets.

New Orleans still dont have a pass rush. Stafford got the best Week 1 opponent he could ask for. Detroit's D is much improved.

Anyone on the Saints to cover is insane or clueless.
