31% of visitors were from California
12% of visitors were international ( Asia mainly)

I am shocked that 20% of people had household incomes below 40K per year. Are 1/5 visitors really that poor? Are a lot of those retired visitors with their homes paid off earning less than 40K? Why would people earning less than 40K per year be blowing pure discretionary money in Vegas anyway?

I am a little suprised the average dollar figure spent on gambling is 555 in 2007. I thought it was closer to 700 or 800 for the average visitor.

I was in Vegas at Ceasars this summer. I really only like to bet pro football, I hate slots, and I'd rather focus all of my gambling energies on NFL instead of some card game/roulette wheel, but I did get to take it all in.

- Playing at the pussycat girls tables was... fun.
- I also saw some guy at the corner private roulette table betting 5K to 15K per hand, just stacking those chips in the air and enjoying the crowd gawking at him.

One night we were going to Ghostbar or Playboy at the Palms and got there early so we played. There was this asian lady ( a regular) who was betting pretty big but only on #26 and #29 ( roulette). That was all she bet on, 26, 29. Over the course of time, she was playing a losing game ( weren't we all). The rumor on her was that she divorced some internet millionare and spent her time at the casino pissing her money away betting on the same two numbers.

She won and would start yelling.

There was also this annoying local white guy at the table. He pissed away about 800 bucks real quick and was pissed she won about 5k. Instead of being happy for her, he kept saying real loud... " ohhhhh she'll give it all back". " ohhhh she'll give it all back". The guy was about as pissed as a Dallas better after a Romo INT. He didn't lose anything, but he was pissed she won.

The guy was a real obnoxious player. He was noticing my girl and he made some comment about grabbing the drink girl, I was almost looking for some reason to beat the guys ass, then he tried to be buddy buddy with me. He said that all the asians bet 26 and 29 for chineese new year or some shit like he was my freaking tour guide.

Eventually I asked her why she always bet the same numbers....
" I got married on the 26th and divorced on the 29th".

I guess Vegas is different stuff to different people.

Cool stats! In addition to the possibility that you raised (retired visitors who technically no longer have much of an income), I would tend to think that a lot of everyday people with legitimate incomes of less than 40K are going there at least once or twice in their lives just to "live the dream" or finally see "what all the fuss is about". Either way, even if a decent percentage pf people with low incomes indeed go there just once or twice in their lives, such a huge population with access to Vegas dictates that there are people fitting this criteria visiting there on a constant and continual basis.

I came across these stats because I was looking into investing into casino & gaming stocks. Knowing the demographics are key and I was shocked at how well and easily accessable they kept these stats.

- Nearly 1/3 of Vegas Patrons are from Cali ( like my man Malibusurfer)
- Over 50% are from " the west".
- Over 1/10 are international ( Mainly Japan, China and asia).

They had all kinds of other stats. People keep saying that Vegas is 'dead", but the number of visitors so far in 2008 is down less than 4% from 2007. Granted there have been discounts, and granted those numbers are more like 10% for each of the past two months... even 10% in this enviornment is pretty impressive.

You might want to check out that website if you have any interest at all. They basically polled people why they did/didn't go to downtown Las Vegas, what other attractions they saw, their satisfaction level, where they booked, etc. etc. etc.

I am also a little suprised the average person stays 4.5 days and blows 555 bucks. That is about 125 bucks per day. I know at the tables that could go REAL quick, and with some people betting big, that number seems a little low for me.

I guess all the grey haired old people playing the tens of thousand slot machines with nickels, quarters, and dimes until their 50 bucks dissapears brings down that average.

I didn't start the thread to bitch about poor people, I started the thread to show some statistics about who comes to vegas, how much do they spend, why do they come, where do they come from, how many days they stay, how old they are etc.

but I find it rather annoying that the same people that bitch and complain they can't afford to fill up their gas tanks, can't afford health insurance, and can't afford food are flocking to Vegas to vacation in the sun, lose money in the casinos, lose money in the over priced retail shops, go see fancy shows, and blow their money at the bars and overpriced restaurants.

Funny how those people that " can't afford to fill up their gas tanks" are walking around with iphones with the latest hip hop ring tones.

maybe thats how they reward themsleves for all the hard work they are putting in week in and week out!! funny that was your reply when the way i see it is the people with all the money are the ones bitching because they are greedy and anytime someone wants to get in their pocket to help the needs of others they want no part of it!! hint this years election!! this country was built and founded on opportunity and not everyone gets an opprtunity...but the ones that do and take advantage always seem to forget where they came from...here is a question for ya and be honest you seem to be pretty well off from the way you talk Q: if you ran into a homeless man who was in real need and looked to be in bad shape health wise and all he wanted was a bus ticket to get to where his family was located for holidays would you buy it for him??

Why should people be rewarding themselves for fancy vegas vacations when they can't AFFORD a reward? 50 years ago, banks didn't give away credit cards like candy. People bought things with cash. If you wanted something you couldn't afford, you saved up for it until you had enough money. NOW, in the year 2008, if you see something you want you buy it... ask questions later. Then people wonder why the economy is so fucked up. They look for everyone and anyone to blame ( Bush, Clinton, Greenspan, Bernake, Paulson, Congress) but themselves. Nobody made you lie on your loan docs to over extend and buy no more house than you can afford. Nobody made you buy 20,000 dollars worth of crap in your apartment to give you that credit card debt. Personal resonsibility in this country is a foreign concent. Who is John Galt?

How would you feel if people wanted to take money against your will from YOUR pocket in the name of "need". What warrents a "need" anyway? Taking money against somebody's will is stealing, and nobody likes being robbed.

How do people in America not have opportunity? Everybody gets a free public education. Everybody has access to public libraries with a a free and unlimited supply of books and internet access. Anybody in this country can join the military and get a GI bill education, or apply for college loans.

One of my best friend's fathers came to this country from Iran years ago. He had nothing. He must have had a few hundred bucks to his name, and he started working hard. He didn't have some fancy job, he was doing contracting until he saved up enough money to start his own business. Now he's a freaking tycoon with 10 houses and a dominant business. Dp you think people handed him his wealth? Do you think the kid that grew up in AMERICA ( not Iran) and had all the opportunites in the world but decieded to drink, smoke and drop out deserves his money more than he does?

The problem is, that most people would agree with you.

I once remembered this site before, thanks for reminding me. Did you see the stats for October? All negative vs last October! I figure to say it will be the same in November and December. I'll be there for the Super Bowl just like every year, I think this time I'll buy another property.

But people keep saying things like " nobody is going to vegas anymore", or " the place is dead".

10% less people on already discounted rooms isn't good for business, but it isn't THAT bad to warrent some of these stocks dropping 90%. I understand there is more to it than that ( and Las Vegas Sands had a huge debt pile), but Vegas isn't "dead".

It looks like Vegas really isn't that seasonal. The numbers are pretty constant through the year with I believe the most traffic in March ( march madness) and April ( nice weather), but even Dec etc. had lots of traffic.
