So, i went from Cincinnati bell to time Warner. I can ot get my blue ray to work now.

Am i connecting it correctly? I got the hdmi going from the tv into the blue ray. Then i have the LAN wire running from my modem, into the router and back into the blue ray. Then when i do this, the modem loses power? I call time warner and they are clueless

Thoughts?

Blueray should only connect to the tv via HDMI cable...nothing else...

Most Blueray nowadays have wireless built in...so you need to use your Blueray's remote to configure your wireless so the Blueray can get on the internet...But as far as connection...you "ONLY" need to connect your Blueray to the TV with the HDMI cable....

Yep this is the problem I'm having with xbox one in my living room.
It's trying to connect to Internet to play the blue ray, but for some reason that particular spot in living room won't pick up signal well, while the rest of the house is perfect.

I'm sure there's an option to use the player without connecting, or at least I hope.

bigbet, there is no reason why T/W can't get you up and running. You mentioned the modem, that might be at the crux of this. Since you have switched providers you may have a case where they do not support your particular modem or possibly another piece of hardware in the loop. Checkout there hwl list for compatibility... I have had this problem in the past with comcast. If that isn't it you may need to configure your blu-ray (no idea what make or model you have) so that it is accessing proper network for starters. You might have to manually enter ip address or network name etc. Wireless or ethernet should not be the issue here so long as one them can find your network/modem. My guess is that you may have to get back at TimeW.

None of the things mentioned should cause the modem to lose power... I say just a faulty modem.

Yea you probably wont need the internet with the bluray too often anyway.. who really pauses the movie and reads the tidbits anyway.. now if you are using your bluray player for netflix or something then fine, but there is better alternatives for that anyway imo for free so I feel that isnt needed as well.
