I heard OU is really going after Arizona highschool defensive end Everson Griffin. He's a 5 star recruit. He's 6-4, 266 lbs. and runs the 40 in 4.46!! They said that the five schools on his list are USC, UCLA, OU, Michigan and Arizona. But he said his top 5 are a fluid situation. He's visited UCLA, ASU and AU. But he didn't really sound thast impressed in his interview. It looks like the Stoops brothers are going to be competing with each other long before they ever meet in a football game. The kid said he hasn't visited OU but plans to after the track season. By the way he won state in the discus. Insiders have you heard any press on this kid out there?

OU is also trying to recruit two other 5 star recruits on defense from the east coast with Marvin Austin and Joseph Barksdale from Detroit. Those players are going to be more of an uphill battle. I would sure like to see Stoops land his third 5 star defensive recruit for the third year in a row. It's good to see Stoops expanding his recruiting area instead of relying so heavily on Texas. Those Texans have been calling OU the "leeches from the north" for a long time now. Ask me if I care.

Funny that you should mention this today. I just heard of this guy this very evening at dinner.
Locals here think the kid will stay in Az, but i think they are just "hopeing" he does stay here. I myself think that USC or OU would be a better spot for him.
I have head that Bob Stoops is makeing an ALL out project in trying to recruit those guys, an you know that he has a way of doing things on the defensive side of the ball. Rumors has it that he will get some of them.

I have NO news other than what you just typed about Griffin as of this moment. I will talk with someone Tuesday that might know more about this situation.

I really hope we get this kid. maybe USC will decide to handle our shit, get the charges dropped against Sanchez, and sign this kid :nopityA:

these young athletes just keep getting better and better...that's amazing that a high school prospect can run his 40 faster than 90% of the combine...

From what I hear OU just did throw their hat into the ring for this kid. They made him an offer May 10, the day before the state track championships. And then the day after he won state in the disc OU coach Chris Wilson came to Arizona and told him their will be an official letter in the mail. He admitted that he didn't know anything abou OU but said he immediatly got on the internet to start learning about the school.

As I said, so far there are 5 schools in the mix. But I'm betting there will be more before this is over. Their projecting him as being one of the top 5 players in the country. But the way Griffin talked in his interview he's looking at the school and coach who can best get him to the next level. In other words he's already thinking pro. And in my opinion the two coaches that have the best chances at getting him there are Bob Stoops and Pete Carroll. With Mike Stoops a close third. That doesn't mean Dorrell is out of the mix. I hear he's a good recruiter But frankly with an all new coaching staff I just don't see this kid being that impressed with the school. Especially when it comes to graduating to the pros. And I don't think Carr at Michigan is going to impress Griffin enough to go there either.

Since he is from Arizona I think Griffin is just far enough out of USC's geographical area to where I think OU might have a chance. Although not a great one IMO. In any other year I would say it's a no brainer. The kid is USC bound. BUT, right now USC is at an alltime low PR-wise. And the later that Griffin takes to commit to a school the better chance OU will have. Again just my opinion. But the impression I got from Griffin in his interview is he's a very smart articulate kid who isn't going to make a fly by night decision. It should be interesting. I know I have a strong feeling that this could be the best defensive lineman prospect to come along in the last few years. 4.4 speed. You gotta be kiddin' me!

GoSooners.

I just spoke to my connection there at OU and he says that Stoops hasnt given up on recruiting Griffin or any of the JC recruits at this time. But he dis say almost the same as you about Griffin takeing a Longer Look at the USC program than Any of the others at this time.
The Stoops brothers willl not surrender in this project until the cows come home. IMHO
I do know that this kid is supposed to be the scrond comeing from ALL the things that has been said here at the Rx and even more so from others that seem to know something about him.
Will keep you updated from what i can find out this week. Information in that area is hard to come by for some reason. I guess they Really dont know..
