And if we don't embrace O'Reilly and Hannity en masse does this make us closed-minded?

It has already started distribution among some satellite companies. On cable, you order an international news package which includes Fox, and (oh, so funny enough) Al Jazeera. Plus three others.

Tit for tat and all that.

I've already pre-ordered, though I'm more curious about AJ than FNC.

Well I have heard AJ is entertaining as is FNC ....but just want your feed back FNC cause they push a little more Right on there programs but also mix in the left which is healthy for all.

Fox has been here for a while now on sat but it can't get any advertising.

It just cuts to a world temperature thingy for each commercial break.

Its a minority/curiosity channel over here.
The content is really weak, if it had some bite it might make some inroads.
Commercially, that is its biggest achilles heel.

Even stuff like CNN etc struggles because it is US orientated btw.

The normal outputs like the BBC and ITV are pretty shallow anyway because of time constraints but Fox it so shallow its almost not there.

The Fox format seems to be a kinda folksy chat-show setup which has never been used over here. The news reports can be so quick and have such little content that you better not blink or you might miss it.

My dad has satellite so we've watched FNC a few times. I find it very very loud. But, then, I think CNN is far too dramatic for news. It's a cultural thing, I think, more than a partisan thing.

I already know I don't like O'Reilly. I think he's a wee bit mental. He claims that the Globe and Mail is a communist paper which is a plainly stupid comment designed to invoke an emotion, not transmit facts or anything resembling facts. He tells his interviewees to shut up and such. Not behaviours suitable for journalism.

Our news, partisanship aside, is tastefully presented. For this reason alone, I believe FNC will fail here. That, and Canada gets enough American news as it is.

X,

I agree Fox can be loud but very indepth on facts and handing out tougher Q & A than a Larry King,CNN,.... like when King asks "If you were a color what color would you like to be"

For O'Reily he comes across arogant,cocky,sly,a...hole, but overall he's a great interviewer and ratings show that.

O'Riely can be a real jerkoff, but he won't allow anyone else to jerk him or the audience around - he is correct when he says "The spin stops here!"

I personally like the discussion phase of the news on "Special Report" - just to get the impression and the spin coming from the different points of view.

I also like Neil Cavvuto - he does financial news and the does his common sense report. Oh, yeah, and I love the Judge (Napolitano) - he's another one who tells it like it is - and why it's the way it is.

All in all, I prefer Fox - because I get just the facts on the news - and opinion is presented as opinion - not as news (like some other news stations)

You gotta like Shepard Smith too BB....and yes O'Reily comes across strong but he has a very bright group that backs him up on his investigating, facts,so it's hard to be offensive against the facts so the SPIN DOES STOP in his interviews.... he usually is correct not the "Dan Rather type news"

Do any of you watch non-American news?

I don't recommend the regular CBC, but their sister station, CBC Newsworld (24 hours) is quite good. Give it one hour and you'll see what I mean about American news.

RW, I don't get to see much of Shepard Smith. He's on at 7:00 PM, which is when the local Fox sports channel has a discussion of the local sports news.

Don't know why anyone from another country would care about our news stations. I have no desire to watch Canadian news. It has never entered my mind.

However, there is obviously a demand up there or they wouldn't be putting in your market.
I always thought Canada was a good neighbor until I started reading this forum a couple of years ago. I didn't realize the hatred towards us by some Canadians. It is disheartening, but I am sure there are some advantages to being our neighbor - I don't expect to read them here though.
Are there any Canadian stations that I can pick up on Directv. I think I would like to start judging yall and your politicians and news stations.

I do want to thank yall for the cheap drugs that my grandmother can get from up there. While I am on it, thanks for the BC bud that my buddy gets from up there too
