If Bush does this he wins big

I have an opinion I would like to share. I believe that if
the inner circle that surrounds Bush can convince him to
have a press conference and he with the most
sincere and contrite facial and body language that he
can conjure says something like this. My fellow
Americans, in light of the most recent decelopments it
is evident that I made an initial mistake in my
evaluation of the importance of an attack on
Iraq. I had evidence and opinions that turned out
to be wrong. I take the blame totally. Like Truman
said "the buck stops here," and I will take total
responsibility for those actions. Today I wish to
apologize to the US the UN and the rest of the
world. An error in judgment was made but not an
error of substance, the fact that Saddam is not
a threat to the international community anymore is
nothing but a positive. Tonight, I ask two things
from the American people. First, I ask for your
forgiveness and second I ask you for the chance
to right the wrong. You know when anybody makes
an error they usually redouble their efforts to make
it right. I promise you tonight, that if given the
chance I will do more than redouble my efforts and
I give my solemn word to the American people and the
people of the world that I will bring this war to a
just and swift conclusion for all those involved.
Thank you.

Now obviously it will be worded differently, but I
strongly belive that if the polls start showing him
declining drastically this speech will happen.

You know Americans just love to forgive a sinner.
We have been doing it for a long time.

Think about this, all the people already commited to
Bush will still vote for him. Logically, some R's that
may have been thinking about Kerry will now reconsider.
And most importantly the "fence leaners," will, imo
go in great numbers back to Bush.

This will be a difficult thing for the "arrogant one"
to do, but if his stooges insist and the polls persist
I think it will happen.

I am not being sarcastic, I really think this might
happen. And I think if it does, he wins big.
What do you think?

BTW: To everybody I called stupd or a moron, if you
are not stupid or a moron I take it back.

Agree with your take, but what you ask for is rationale, reason and humility from this camp.
Ain't gonna happen, no way, nowhere.

They chose the end and justify the means. They never admit to wrongdoing or mistake, because they are just plain mean.

Every right-wing advisior or spokesperson always has something mean, nasty, demeaning, or callous to say about anyone who disagrees with their philosophy.

I know what you are saying and you know I agree.
However, there are bigger stakes involved and I
think they could possibly do this. Not positive,
just think if they get way behind it is an
avenue they may discuss.

I hope you are right and it doesn't happen,
because if it does he wins easily.

And you might add this to your ignorant drivel...

And while I'm apologizing to the UN and the world for defending American lives...

Let me announce - it is now open season on Americans.

Like Clinton, when US intelligence agencies bring me reports saying that someone is building WMD's to kill your children. I will do nothing.

Happy hunting....

Mr

I don't think you caught the drift. I am not saying
he will really believe this. I am saying he might
say it to win the election. Can't understand your
animoisity, amazing some of you people just
can't understand elementary logic. I will hold
my tongue. What do you mean "ignorant drivel"?
I am in no way being sarcastic, I am simply
presenting a political possibility. Now readers
do you understand why I sometimes say the
things I say? Unbelievable!!

His response is interesting, though, staci. What would the reaction of the core supporters be? Don't underestimate the power of the Manichean worldview these people hold. If this board (and others) are any indication, an apology is tantamount to acknowledging defeat ... and would cast doubt on the US's 'totally good' position in the world.

Bush owes the Iraqi people an apology, he owes the American people an apology, he owes Congress an apology, he owes his allies who didn't join him an apology. But it won't happen.

Got to agree. It won't happen.

Stupid is as stupid does.
Plus these are tuff guys and relatively extreme people.

Like extremist idiots everywhere, they only know how to dig themselves in deeper, and eventually they create holes big enough for us all to fall into.

----------------------------------

Chirac won't even talk to Bush now and various UN stuff has been put on hold because this administration is so polarised and predictable.(the US veto)

Yes, you gentlemen are probably correct. Too much macho
pride for these idiots to ever admit a mistake. However, if
I were giving Bush advice I would implore him to make
that speech. I really believe he would win big if he did.

Now I am a little ambivalent about this election. Like so
many of you I can't see Bush for four more years. However,
like I said before and I believe also mentioned by Xpanda
a Bush victory would in all probability keep the reactionary
R's out of power for a long time. But what a horrendous
price the US and the world will have to pay. Also, the
state of affairs is so fu.... up now Kerry would have to be
a super president to just get us even. Quite a dilemma,
maybe I must vote for Bush. God forgive me.

There are big changes afoot anyway over the next few years.

The rising price of oil will have a far bigger effect on Western society than the middle east debacle.

OPEC has a smaller share of output yada yada yada but that is irrelevant.

The greatest weakness is the lack of alternatives for an increasingly scarce commodity.

We've had 30 years since the last big oil nightmare but have done relatively little to actually create serious diversification in the general transport and energy use infrastructure.

Production/organisation/outputs for alternatives are vastly superior compared to 30 years ago, but there will still be a period of pain, and as usual the little guys who have to work for a living will do the heavy lifting.

-------------------------------------------------

As an afterthought for those who do shares/investments
Inflation is pretty rampant when oil price rises bite.
It creates a lot of uncertainty.

The biggest difference between then and now is the size and scope of the corporate companies/entities.

In the 70's it was much easier to work for yourself in far more areas because the corporates hadn't hoovered up so much of the wealth creation opportunities/areas that an individual could turn towards.

I'm not sure at the moment if thats a good or a bad thing in a serious oil crisis situation, but it is a fundamental difference in our society from 30 years ago.

Another fundamental difference (sorry. thinking aloud)

Governments had far more influence over companies/markets in those days.

The only bodies with that kind of economic clout nowadays are the European Union and the US Gov.
