I Agree w/ you man, if the guy has money is actually better to start his own company, but at the same time if I heard anything I'll let you know...

The problem with starting up is getting a square customer base.

What I think is that is better start from scartch, but the main problem is not getting square players or any type of players, the problem is getting them, cause right now is too many competition and many players they dont really like to start testing new places because of all the problems in the industry.
So sometimes could be better to buy one that is already stablish, more expensive but might be better.

But in my personal opinion, I would try to open a new shop instead of buying one.

so many views

so little feedback.

I agree that it make sense to begin from scratch. There are a few reasons why
you would want to buy a book. Look at sportingbet. Their business is more of buying books (and poker)than sportsbetting. We are interested to get a head start, and blieve that we can smell a good opportunity if it comes or way.
We are interested mainly in information about big books that would be interested in selling a stake. Smaller books, or buying the whole operation type of deals are also an option.

Get in the business first and people might start coming out of the woodwork to make offers. If you are an outsider with no apparent direction other than saying we are going to be big in this business and want to buy lots of books people will think you are nuts. Even worse they won't bother talking to you thinking you are either looking for competitive information or are a fed. Get yourself down to San Jose, use up a little shoe leather and before you know it you will have offers. Some might be insane so don't jump at the first one, but trust me in time they will come in. Especially in the next month or two. Last year I went down there in May with no intention of buying anything, but an associate wanted me to sniff around a bit to see what was going on. Next thing you know I saw two books that wanted to sell and a third that wanted me to discuss it with his agent. As it turned out my associate bought one up, only after negotiating the price down about 45%. The books are out there, but obviously they don't want to be out on the street telling the world they have to sell.
