People always talk about this stupid loch ness monster thing that swims around the lake at night and I finally saw what they were talking about. This is in Idaho so keep that in mind when identifying whatever it could be.

It was dark so the details are spotty (bringing a spot light next time) but the part of it that was out of the water is about the size of a duck. There are a ton of ducks on the lake but I know it's not a duck because I pegged it with a rock when it got within range. I didn't mean to peg it but I did. Anyway, it didn't fly away like a duck. It also moves about 10 times faster than a duck and was trucking at a good rate. Most of the time the rocks hit around it the thing would change direction but once when I hit it and once when I got close it went under water for close to a minute before coming up.

It's hard to tell because of the shadows and it being night but it appears that there is more under the water than just the thing we saw on the top. Maybe a few feet but it's hard to say. Only other thing to note is that it comes out at night or at least no one I know has ever seen anything other than ducks/geese/birds on the water. No reports of missing people or duck feedings. I have heard people say they've seen the thing jump into the water before so apparently it's something that can chill on land.

Anyway, help me identify it. I'm thinking beaver/otter but really don't know enough about either to be sure. Solve the mystery of the Idaho lake monster. :103631605

Possibly raccoon because of the nocturnal thing... but I don't think they can go under water that long.

So you thought it was a duck and when it "got in range", you threw a rock and "pegged" it? Interesting.........

Anyways, could it have been a otter? I dont know if they exist there, but they are all over Florida. What about a beaver?

I couldn't tell what it was but because of all the ducks on the pond it was my first possibility. I threw the rock to see if it would fly away. It was supposed to land a few feet away but I miscalculated. PS it wasn't a laser shot for anyone interested. Small rock... lobbed... Don't tell PETA.
