Alright who is sick of the "I would take a strong look at" comment yet? I am but the posted picks on this board are 6-0 and while I'm not superstitious, if it ain't broke...
Again, I usually don't post picks but had a best bet thread about 3 weeks ago and if I think a play is really strong, I post it. Haven't lost yet doing so, hope that continues.
Tonight I'm taking Northern Illinois +3 1/2 at Eastern Michigan. Again another road team and both teams are bad, but I consider Eastern Michigan really REALLY bad, a team that can't score and doesn't really play defense. Northern Illinois isn't exactly the North Carolina Tarheels either but they do come in winning their last 3 games, by FAR playing their best basketball of the season.
Northern Illinois is only 2-9 on the road, NOT good but Eastern Michigan is an equally pathetic 4-9 at home, not what I consider a good home court advantage. I have no idea how many fans they usually have at a game, but I can't expect many to watch this classic encounter.
Northern Illinois is 4-1 in their last five, averaging a pretty decent 72 points a game during that stretch allowing 67. Eastern Michigan is 3-2 in their last 5 but 2 of their wins were against Central Michigan by 1 and beat a equally horrible Toledo team by 9. They've scored 57, 58, 58, and 38 in their last 4 games. 38? That's alarming to me, the trend has been going all season and I don't look for them to break out of that tonight.
When backing bad teams, you can always lay an egg but I don't see it tonight, not against Eastern Michigan. A horrible team only averaging around 55 a game, laying 3 1/2 to ANYONE is a solid bet in my book going the other way. Especially when you are playing a team that is better than you at every position and playing their best basketball of the season.
I look for Northern Illinois to win the game outright, so I'm taking them tonight for my top play of the night (ok, I sound like a tout with that statement so I take it back).
