I’m not a huge fan of either party, and we got screwed with our choices.

But these tariffs will have devastating effects on the middle class. I hope I’m wrong.

Instead of the stupid emoji, explain to me? There is so much mixed information out there what’s the truth? There is none. It’s called gaslighting.

So you think the small business is going to be able afford it? Sat that bottle your hot sauce is in, made in China. They now get at a 30% tariff, what if it goes up 4-5x the amount. Then what?

We won’t feel it in the text 1-2 months, but by fall, it will be felt. Big corp will be the only ones surviving.

If they are enforced eventually at the rates that Trump proposed (and currently paused) then 100% it could backfire

I think it can be ok if Trump ultimately backs off of that position and focuses more on fixing deals with China

With China though the rate needs to be quite a bit lower. It’s not in our best interest to have an absurdly high tariff rate and you are likely correct that the middle class will suffer if things hold

The back-and-forth with China have been reckless, and people need to realize China has some serious leverage in terms of dumping US treasuries

I’m holding out hope the policy will be way less cutthroat than advertised in the end

It doesn’t look like it ends well. But no one can have a civilized conversation here without insulting someone. I’m sure the attacks are coming. Not sure why people can’t just have an open discussion without insults.

The maggots here are incapable of that. 99 can communicate effectively though he's completely one-sided in his disgust for the left and doesn't see ANYTHING wrong on the rt except for prez being unpresidential. If the theory of bringing back manufacturing to the US. it just isn't done with a snap of the finger. It will take 5-6 years to really establish that while minimizing outsourcing. It could be quite painful very soon and people will be PISSED big time!

That's the saddest part about modern politics, and it always seems to be getting worse.

People are more concerned with their party being right than what the best possible outcome their country/society. Biased fandom should be saved for sports, not politics

It's sad to see some people here literally not be able to acknowledge any possible mistake made by Trump. It's somehow impossible that maybe, just maybe Trump could have approached the tariff strategy differently. Any suggestion of that though and some people become up in arms

Hell, Joe Biden (love or hate the guy) was president for 4 years and people here literally deny that he was ever president/won the election. It's THAT bad

There really aren't lol

Lot of Trump posts like "Trump is the master of the deal" or "Trump is playing 4D chess" without really explaining his approach or why that's the case in any sort of substantive detail

This isn't how it would work. That is what.

Remember 2018? There was another trade war. Did we survive?

Companies don't respond to tariffs in some uniform fashion. If you listen to the media and the left wing geniuses around here, they sincerely believe it is just like a sales tax. They're wrong.

Tariffs are applied to baskets in the 10's-100's of billions of dollar range. Companies respond in different ways. This is all just anti-Trump hysteria. If a Democrat were President, the only stories on tv you would see would be about how unions love these moves and a bunch of jobs are going to be created.

No one is really arguing against tariffs in general. Most support some tariffs on China on both sides of the political spectrum.

What’s being debated is how Trump is imposing his tariffs. The scope of countries and rates he proposed are literally unprecedented, so we can’t act like it’s unfair to question his strategy and be concerned

So no, it’s not anti-Trump hysteria.

Things shouldn’t be framed as “tariff vs no tariff”

Or “tariffs work”

There is a world of difference between a 20% tariff and a 120% tariff. Completely different economic outcomes .

And of course we never saw inflation in 2018 after the auto tariffs.

The "experts" assured us that the MSRP was going up by $4,000 on cars! The real impact was a 0.017% increase in goods prices.

Take a deep breath and tune out the noise.
